😂🤣

We are working hard here to finish up pulling our 26 season honey! The race is on to finish as the Goldenrod is starting to bloom! Don’t kill that goldenrod! That is one of the last major sources for nectar & pollen for our bees before winter!

Today is World Honey Bee Day! Take some time to celebrate the role Honey Bees play in our food chain today. They help provide vital pollintion for our favorite fruits, vegatables and nuts! Of course, you don't have to be a beekeeper to still help the bees. You can help by keeping your space clear of pesticides, plant bee friendly flowers and plants, and support your local bee keeper by buying honey and beeswax products.

While we await our new queen, check out these shots I got doing field work over the weekend. The Ladies with their pollen pants! Someday, I will have time to set out there with my real camera- until then- shot with Iphone14.

Slight twist in the queen cell drama. The worker bees decided to tear down the last cell. So we now have 2 visible capped cells left. Remember that we can’t see the inner frames, so there could be more elsewhere in the colony yet. And here is a handy little tool I use to help keep track of my Bee math, when to expect hatching, mating flights and what not. It is very important that we do not open and disturb the colony during these times!

2 of the 3 queen cells are now capped. Once the cells are capped, the larvae will pupate. Only one of these cells will prevail as queen. Sometimes it is as simple as the first one to hatch will sting and kill the others thru their cell walls. Other times, queens will fight. As the cells age, and prior to hatching, the queens will “call out” to see if they have any competition. We call this “piping”, and usually happens just before hatching! I will try really hard to catch video with sound when they enter this phase.

The queen cells are getting longer! They will be capped soon!
