What are your favorite late-summer blooms?

You’d think after 8 years of growing cut flowers I would have it figured out by now. But farming has taught me there is always something new to learn.

Every year is different. Flowers behave differently, the weather has a mind of its own, and Mother Nature always has a few surprises waiting. Sometimes the flowers I expect to struggle thrive, while others completely surprise me.

Lately, I’ve been reminded that life is a lot like that too. I like to have a plan and figure things out on my own, but God keeps reminding me that I don’t have to have it all figured out. I just need to be faithful with what He’s placed in front of me and trust Him with the rest.

Here are a few of my late-summer favorites:
Dawn Creek Pastel zinnias
Sunrich sunflower mix
Dahlias
Lisianthus — second flush!
Autumn Joy sedum
Double Click cosmos
Gomphrena
Nandina + gum eucalyptus
Mexican sunflower — my newest love!

Eight years in, I’m still learning, experimenting, failing, trying again, and falling in love with flowers I didn’t expect to love.

There’s always something new growing — in the garden and in me.

All I wanted was to have a productive day. Let’s just say… none of those w**ds got tackled today. 😂

Of course, everything that could possibly go wrong decided to go wrong. No gas in the push mower. Couldn’t find a charged battery for my w**d eater to save my life. Ran out of pig feed and had to make a mad dash before they closed at noon.

Then the push mower decided to quit working—and of course, Joe wasn’t home to fix it. 🤦‍♀️ We were also completely out of bug spray and oils, so I basically became an involuntary buffet for every bug in Middle Tennessee.
And don’t even get me started on the stupid heat.

But… I did manage to make a pretty bouquet. Does that count as a productive day?
I’m calling it a win and leaving the w**ds for another day.

Time is a thief—the one thing we never have enough of and can never get back.

It has taken me a long time to realize that time spent resting isn’t wasted time. I can still do better at it, but I’m learning. I’m growing. And when you’re getting pretty close to the halfway point in this thing called life, you start thinking a little more about how you want to spend the years ahead.

Here’s what I know right now (and who knows…tomorrow could bring a different story):
I want to feel good—physically, emotionally, and spiritually—so I can be the best version of myself for me, my family, and my friends.

I want to keep teaching. Despite all the crap teachers deal with, I genuinely love my job and the people I get to pour into.

And I want to keep growing flowers. I want to fill your days and mine with the beauty that comes from a little patch of dirt, a lot of hard work, and God’s handiwork.

But the truth is, sometimes there just isn’t enough time.

So, the farm stand will be closed this weekend and next weekend. The flowers, however, are still growing and blooming—and I would be more than happy to create something special and beautiful for you. Just reach out. Email, DM, whatever works best.

Thank you to every single person who supports, shares, shops, recommends, and talks about our little farm. We are so incredibly grateful for you. 💐

And maybe this season is teaching me that slowing down isn’t giving up.

Sometimes it’s simply making room for what matters most.

August is such a whirlwind in so many ways here on the farm. I’m adjusting to being back in the classroom, which means a whole lot less time on the farm. And when I’m not there, the bugs, heat, and w**ds happily take over.

My mama heart gets a little smooshy when I realize I have a junior in high school and a sophomore in college. Time really is a thief.

The Lord has been putting it on my heart to make more room for rest and for my family, so I’m figuring out what that looks like. Deep down, my heart and body are yearning to slow down a little.
Because of that, I think the Flowerstand hours will change this fall. I’m not exactly sure what that will look like yet, but one thing I do know: flowers will always be available.

I’m not going to stop growing the beauties that bring you (and me!) so much joy. So if you need flowers, don’t hesitate to reach out and order yours anytime.

Maybe this next season is less about doing more and a little more about being present for what matters most. 💛

How do you stay cool on these extreme hot days?

Stand is stocked with fall vibes and summer color pops because we dream of fall but still suffer through the highs of summer.

Open 8-12pm today due to the high temps but say the word and flowers will be ready any time of day today or tomorrow.
