We were so grateful to get to harvest American BeautyBerry (Callicarpa americana) to make some beautiful and unique tasting jelly! Come sample some tomorrow at the Main Street Murfreesboro Saturday Market from 8-12. We’ll also have our microgreens and other goodies!

The chickens house has officially been turned into a nightclub for the Fall Season. Ladies night is every night, of course. When the light cycle starts to change, so do their laying habits so adding a light keeps them more motivated to lay those tasty eggs! We’ll have even more multi-colored, farm fresh chicken eggs this week thanks to these ladies hard work and James installing the light!

Thank you all who braved the hurricane remnants to come shop the market today! It’s always worth braving the wind and rain to see so many of your smiling faces. We’ll be back next weekend in full force with (hopefully) sunnier skies and new things!

How many Mexican Sour Gherkin aka cucamelons aka mouse melons did we drop? This has been such a fun plant to grow this year! They’re growing even bigger and crunchy as we’ve reached autumn and they’re loving these temps. If you haven’t ever tried one, stop by and sample one at the Main Street Murfreesboro Saturday Market we’ll be there rain or shine, with our microgreens, eggs, jellies, tie dyes, and more from 8-12am.

Meet Garcia, she’s one of our Easter Eggers who lays blue eggs. Did you know that chicken ear lobes can help you identify what color egg they’ll lay. She has the best example of this in our flock! We’ll have more colorful eggs this week, along with our microgreens, herbed salt, jellies, syrups & more at the Main Street Murfreesboro Saturday Market tomorrow from 8-12pm!

When you have a farm, you don’t get to get away as often… so here’s to brining the beach to the kitchen. Our zen garden this week is lemon basil sea salt. Herbed sea salt is a wonderful way to preserve all those fresh herbs. For every 2 cups of salt, you’ll want 1 cup of fresh herbs. Process the herbs and salt into your desired consistency in your blender, then spread into a thin layer on a cookie sheet. Then break up clumps and smooth it out again until it’s completely dry. You can also throw it in a thin layer into your dehydrator on the lowest setting for 2-3 hours. But I find letting the herbed salt naturally dry helps retain the flavor better! Once it’s done just store it in an airtight container. It’s great on roasted potatoes, any meat, and added to soups and stews!

Gone are the days peeling 200+ eggs by hand! We got an automatic egg peeler! We were skeptical, but this thing has earned a coveted countertop space!

Quails can be loud little creatures, specifically the males. They always make some extra noise when we give them some microgreens!
