Happy World Photography Day! Never did I think how far this account would come in sharing and promoting our rare native breeds through my photography. Thank you all for your support over the years. I promise I am working on a book 🙈📚

I wanted to share this photo of the Dales stallion Roandale Socky Tom II. It was one of my first ‘viral’ images and perhaps the reason why so many of you came across me 🐴🐴

Tom is a blue/black roan, which is a rare colour in Dales ponies - the roan gene nearly went extinct in the breed! The Roandale stud was instrumental in keeping the roan gene in the breed without compromising the quality of the ponies. Dales ponies originate in the Dales region of northern England (the east side of the Pennines to the Lake District). They were (and still are) valued as strong working ponies, and they also possess incredibly athletic abilities and the most gorgeous and powerful trot 🐴🐴 Dales ponies are categorised as priority by Rare Breeds Survival Trust 🐴⛰ ©Ruth Chamberlain also known as Ruth on the Hoof.
