I did a thing! 40 quail eggs purchased and arrived today from 5 Little Quail Homestead in WA. Not a single broken egg! Packaging was amazing! If you are looking to add new blood to your covey I highly recommend looking at this small business.

Now to let them warm up and rest from their journey before heading into the incubator.

It’s been a bit busy and yet slow at the same time which sounds weird for lambing. Lambs are coming almost daily but just one or two ewes a day.

Today marks two weeks since we should have started lambing but the girls waited until the 15th to grace me with some lambs. Still on normal years I would be about half way through the flock and this year the girls are taking their sweet time.

I haven’t been keeping up on the pictures as well as I hoped I would but here are a few lambs from this last week.

Lambing is under way and off to a good start. Three sets of twins in two days. It’s always nice to start off slow and ease my way into things before the storm hits and several lamb in one day.

I’m in town and checked my barn cameras knowing hear girls have to start lambing sooner or later even though they are three days late, and found a ewe with twins! Can’t wait to get home and see what I’ve got and who had them. Let the chaos begin!

Herman loves his rams. He eats with them and sleeps with them everyday. Surprisingly they don’t seem to mind him at all unlike the ewes who think he is the spawn of all things unholy and run away. Which at this point makes him the best “herding dog” I have!

Who needs a farm dog when you can have a farm pig. Herman helps water, feed, and lays at my feet while I finish chores. He listens and comes at my call better than most of my dogs.

And we’re off! If you follow me on YouTube you know our struggle this year trying to get someone out to cut our hay. It hasn’t been pretty.

We finally came to the conclusion it was time to pull this old girl out of the w**d patch and put her to use.

After 6 weeks, lots of parts, prayers and elbow grease we have a running swather! Is it perfect? Nope. But who or what is? We take the good with the bad on the farm and keep moving forward.

Here’s to getting through this cutting and hopefully the next! 🙏🏻🤞🍾

Last lamb of the season! And on the last day of lambing! This was a slow and different lambing group. Our first ewe lambed on her due date to kick off the season on April 28 and our last ewe lambed to end the season on the last day of lambing May 25.

I ended up with 16 ewe that lambed out of 26. And 23 lambs - 10 boys and 13 girls.
10 singles
5 sets of twins
1 set of triplets

Now to rest over summer with farm work before breeding starts in September and lambing my last group (hopefully) in October.
