Food Fix

Having dinner with family and friends at The Boathouse tonight. Started with an app of Firecracker Shrimp. For dinner, we got Fish n Chips, a Jam Burger, and a Fried Bologna Sandwich. It was delicious!

Having lunch at Thai Lao. This is #36 Pad Ke Mao (Drunken Noodles). It’s got a nice peppery spice and the vegetables are nice and tender.

We did a street food tour tonight! We wish we had done this at the beginning of the trip instead of the end. The tour included 5 stops - 2 entree, 1 for sides, and 2 for desserts.

The first stop had Pho Nam Bo, kumquat Tea, and chicken soup. I prefer the Bun Bo Nam Bo we had earlier in the week but I liked it with the pho noodles. The kumquat tea had a great flavor and the chicken soup was a comforting flavor.

The second stop had Bun Rieu Gan Bo. It was a lot like Bun Cha but had crab in it. It was very flavorful. We realized at this point that there were three more stops and we were already full. This was going to be an issue. 😁

The third stop had an assortment of dishes - rice bread, spring rolls, fried pork pancakes, shrimp pancakes, and sticky rice pancakes. My favorite was the shrimp pancake but they were all good.

The fourth stop was our first dessert and we had 2 to choose from. Tho Phu which was like a bean pudding or a sticky rice pudding. I liked both but I think the rice pudding was my favorite.

The last stop was for coconut ice cream. It was topped with fresh and dried coconut and there was sticky rice in the bottom of the dish.

We stopped at Corner Food for lunch today. We each got a Hanoi Beer to drink and then we got an order of spring rolls to split. Ethan got the beef stir fry. I got the beef stew. Amber got the Bun Cha. It was all delicious and the total was 365,000 d**g which equates to $14.31 for the 3 of us.

Alec didn’t want this so we went by McDonalds and got him a cheeseburger.

Today, we had lunch at Hanoi 1930 Bistro. It overlooks Hoan Kiem Lake as well as a busy 5 way intersection. The view of the lake is nice and watching the people and the traffic is always fun here

Getting ready for the trip, we kept hearing about Train Street where the tracks are surrounded by coffee shops and street vendors. It was closed for a while but we saw it was opened and found a nice spot to sit, enjoy a drink, and wait for the train to pass.

We found a nice coffee shop Coffee Nhu Y where we got some drinks and waited for it to come past us. The spot was great with a view of a busy intersection with lots of people watching and crazy traffic. We tried our first egg coffee there and it was wonderful. We also tried milk coffee, avocado smoothie, passion fruit juice, and Saigon beer.

For dinner, we ate at Met Vietnamese Restaurant and Vegan. We got several dishes from their recommended specials. First is the Spring Roll 3-way. Sautéed squid with garlic and celery. Then Beef Pho. Then Vietnamese pancake.

For lunch, we came to one of Kenneth’s favorite restaurants, Bun Bo Nam Bo. They only have one main item - Bun Bo Nam Bo and some sides. We didn’t try any sides today. It’s a beef noodle dish with broth, lettuce, peanuts, fried onions and green mango slices. I was concerned about the amount of fried onion but I mixed it all up and it’s was wonderful.

We are visiting Hanoi Vietnam this week. We arrived late last night and are out exploring this morning. We found a nice bakery not far from our hotel - Trieu Patisserie.
