Hi friends! Busy day today prepping for the next round of strawberries arriving as bare root plants mid December. We made a dent in it but still have a ways to go.. hopefully while the weather is still decent!
We will be at Umpqua Valley Farmer’s Market tomorrow BUT we will be moved to a new location! You can find us down near the Lehne's booth closer to the courthouse end of market. We will be bringing our delicious eggs and also lots of tasty pork sausage. We have Bratwurst, breakfast links and ground packs of sweet Italian, Country style, Chorizo and plain ground for those of you who like to season your own! See ya tomorrow!

Driving by our farm? We are happy to be offering our fresh batch of USDA pork sausage to you! We will be putting up our pork sign by Little Red when we are home (like today).. you just drive up, give us a call and we wil meet you at the stand with your order. We just packed up our freezer with a delicious array of sausage goodies and they will be coming with us tomorrow for Umpqua Valley Farmers' Market. We are excited to be participating in the annual Blocktober Fest downtown. Because of Blocktober Fest the market hours tomorrow will be from 11-4pm. Also the market will be shifted over to main street. You can find our booth in front of Little Brothers Pub. We hope to see you there!

Welcome to the farm Ruby! Ruby is a registered Idaho Pasture Pig (IPP) this is the breed we have grown to love raising. The breed combines the best traits of 3 different breeds durocs for their excellent mothering abilities, berkshire for the premium pork quality and kunekunes to keep the breed smaller, friendly and able to live on pasture and convert grass to pork. Idaho pasture pigs are bred to have very short, upturned snouts.. it may look funny to someone not used to it but that super short snout helps protect your fields from excessive rooting. These are a true grazing pig breed. Ruby has already farrowed (given birth) twice so we know she is proven and we are hoping she is bred! We have had a hard time breeding our pigs which has left us with a pork shortage for many months.. we are hopeful that sweet Ruby girl here will turn our luck around!

Hi everyone wonderful news and faith in humanity restored! The person had sent a message i had not seen that they were short on cash for the day but needed food. We are always up for helping someone in that situation especially this customer as he stops by regularly and always pays.

We apologize for the false alarm.. the honor system keeps on rolling and phew we don't need to put up any annoying video surveillance signs!

It's still strawberry season over here at Big Lick! Little Red is all stocked up with today's harvest! Also some delicious plum preserves, eggs, rendered lard, blueberry honey, honeycomb honey, Asian pears and comice pears. Open daily 9-630pm

Remember we invested in about 400 raspberry plants this spring? They have gone gangbusters and we are actually harvesting some berries off of them! These are the fall gold variety.. so sweet and delicious! Not very many to share this year but next year we should see some big harvests! And yes our raspberry patch still needs to be trellised! When in Southern Spain in the heart of olive oil production we heard that olive trees are planted for your grandchildren.. Out in our own 15 year old fruit orchard tonight harvesting pears for market tomorrow and imaging the same thing.. one day possibly our grandchildren will harvest fruits from these same trees. An orchard is a long time commitment but when the fruits arrive they are a blessing for years.

Sure it is getting cooler and a tad bit dreary out but guess what?.. we still have strawberries! These pints are up for grabs at Little Red today and all week.. we are home today so can keep replenishing if these sell out. We also have blueberry honey, fresh batch of honey in the comb, eggs, strawberry jam, Bartlett and Asian pears, Satsuma plums and fresh batch of bottled lard too!
