When you’re searching for a foal that you’ve dreamed about and you want exactly what is being advertised, ask questions and ask for copies of the papers.
I’ve seen foals advertised as “100% European Brabant” when nothing can clearly support that claim. As a buyer, you have every right to ask questions and verify the breeding behind the horse you are considering.
Any breeder worth your time should be willing to provide the information you need. Responsible breeding isn’t simply a job or a way to make money—it’s a passion. We breed because we love the breed we have chosen and because we want to help preserve and build a future for it.
If you have questions or need clarification about pedigrees, registration, or breeding, don’t hesitate to reach out to the registry associated with the breed. They are there to promote and protect the breed, and they can be an important resource for buyers. And most of all….the registry knows all the breeders registering foals.
Do your research. Ask questions. See the paperwork. Know what you’re buying.
The right breeder will respect you for doing your homework.
