Rudbeckia, also known as black eyed susan, is a native flower of North America. It blooms from early summer to fall as long as old blooms are removed. The plant likes to grow in well drained soil in full sun. For the longest vase life follow these guidelines when harvesting.

-Cut early in the morning or late in the evening when the plants are most hydrated.

-Perform the wiggle test. If flower head is floppy it's not ready to be cut.

-If the stem passes the wiggle test cut the stem at the base where it is coming out of the plant. There will usually be some side shoots and that's okay.

-change water often(daily) as these flowers have small hairs on their stems that can collect dirt and bacteria.

Minute pirate bugs are tiny insects that act as nature's pest control in the flower field. They eat soft-bodied pests like thrips, spider mites, and aphids.
In their nymph stage they are small, wingless, and teardrop-shaped. They are fast-moving and change in color from yellow-orange to brownish-red as they mature.
Both adults and nymphs are equipped with a needle-like beak that is used to spear and suck the fluids out of their prey.
While their diet is usually made up of bugs they can also supplement it will pollen and nectar if the food pests are in short supply.
The adults can be identified by their black bodies with a white diamond on the back.
