Arns Winery

Arns Winery ARNS WINERY is located on the hillside east of the historic City of St. Helena, CA, in the heart of the Napa Valley.

The 160 acre parcel sits at an elevation of 800 feet above the valley floor and below the Howell Mountain Appellation. The soil for the ten acre all-Cabernet vineyard is Red Aiken Loam, which was planted in the mid-to-late 1960’s. Our wines represent selections from ten different blocks, with clones from Bordeaux and the Napa Valley. The vines consist of up to 2,900 plants/acre trained in a vertic

al shoot positioning. Arns property was homesteaded in the late 1880’s by a fellow from Germany. The second owner was a stone mason who did very creative plaster work in homes and caves throughout the Valley. He built the Culinary Institute of America in St. Helena, Ca from stones quarried from our property. There is a long history of Zinfandel grapes grown from the previous owners. The Arns family purchased this parcel in the late 1950’s as a retreat for their family. John Arns, along with his brother, Steve, have kept the tradition of grape growing here at Arns. John Arns and Sandi Belcher developed Arns Winery after years of selling grapes to local wineries.

Arns New “Petaluma Gap Chardonnay!

In the creative world of winemaking, there is always a spark in our ambitions to look for the unusual vineyards that has unfounded potential. Hence, our current 2020 Searby Chardonnay from the Sonoma Coast in the shadow of the Pacific Ocean was discovered. This is the second oldest Chardonnay Vineyard in Sonoma County. We were fortunate enough to see this tiny, small, neglected plot of land that looked like a lost dog having great potential. Our first year with this site was 2015 and we are so pleased at the French White Burgundy style we planned actually came into a luscious, rich and handsome wine.

In 2022 we came across another exciting new adventure to explore just north of the San Francisco Golden Gate Bridge called the Petaluma Gap. This is a beautiful vineyard site yielding small amounts of Chardonnay clusters that are around 15 years young. This area is defined by its unique wine/fog conditions. There are only 10+ wineries in this region and it is known for high quality, low yields, power packed fruit components. The growing season is very long because of the cool climate. These two vintages are aged in 100% New French Oak and are very self-regulating hence you get a more natural balance displaying its power and elegance in the final finish of bright citrus, ripe apple, a touch of mango merging together over the years.

Enjoy our wines at gatherings with friends and family venturing outdoors in this beautiful weather we all call Spring. Let our wines be the bond that is shared.

CELEBRATING THE WOMEN OF ARNS!

A small saga from viticulturist, John ARNS, who has developed numerous vineyards throughout the Napa Valley and beyond. This is his take on our brand, ARNS Napa Valley with three Woman!

John Arns’ mother, Eloise ARNS, native of Berkeley, CA had the foresight to invest in an old abandoned Zinfandel vineyard on the east side of the Napa Valley just a hair below Howell Mt. in 1966. Eloise wanted to be a part of the valley with her husband, Bob. In 1984 they decided to plant the main portion of what was then called, “Tilting Rock” with Cabernet Sauvignon. Eloise was instrumental in acquiring and developing the Estate Vineyard of Cabernet.

Sandi Belcher ARNS has been the genius behind ARNS wines from the beginning (1980) and continues today making balanced and food friendly wines. She has worked in multiple wineries throughout the Napa Valley and abroad as early as 1970’s. She has great experience in making different varieties but favors Cabernet Sauvignon and a nice French White Burgundy style Chardonnay. She surprisingly has imported Johannesburg Riesling into Germany the only time Germany has ever imported this variety.

Kathi Belcher Tyler is a great champion of ARNS. She came on board with great talents from working at larger wineries. A real trooper for our small winery and we could not get through harvest without her. Kathi had a beautiful daughter born on Sandi’s birthday, Breanna Tyler, who lived on the crush pad (August 27) at one week old.

Three women - who embrace the holistic vision of wine, seeing it not merely as a bottled product, but as a fusion of various elements that form the fabric of our wines.

Thank you Ladies!
John

Happy birthday, Kathi!!! Thank you for everything you do for Arns!
