Don Buhman began growing grapes 20 years ago just like his great grandfather John Jacob Buhman back in the late 1800’s just before Prohibition and phylloxera. Now more than 150 years later Don is selling his grapes to well-known wineries such as Mumm, Gotts, Prisoner, Artessa, Naked, Rombauer, and many more. That’s why, when his life-long friend Suzanne Javorina (also a well-known Napa entrepreneu
rial name) suggested to Don that they start making wine together, it was a natural step for him to take. Together, they founded Buhman Estate Vineyards. Buhman Estate Vineyards has a rich and colorful history. Some of the highlights include the iconic red barn, which Don Buhman’s Great Grandparents built in 1898 in fact it is inside that barn where Dons grand father and father were born. Amazingly, in the early 1900s the same barn that still stands at the center of Buhman Ranch was used over 150 years ago to house dances where people from all over came. They even had big Roller skating parties on the top floor of the Barn. Don Buhman’s biggest dream is to someday, in the near future use the iconic Red Barn to make their wine and to have a Tasting Room so people from all over can once again visit and see why over 150 years ago people loved their red barn and why it is so special and is filled will so much history. If you are interested in knowing more about the history of this iconic ranch and red barn, or you have a question about their wines.
