What are you hoping for in 2024?
So many people, especially us women, will start making lists of things that are “self-improvement” focused. They include lists of “I should do this . . .,” usually because we’re trying to “fix” something about us that we see as problematic.
BUT . . .
What if we changed our resolutions to be “self-CARE” focused? What if instead of picking out goals for improvement, we decided on practices that fostered more self-love?
In 2023, after a few years of researching and learning, and adopting The Napa Table principles, I set my own mindfulness system in motion. I worked on changing my focus from result-driven goals to developing feeling-driven practices.
I cultivated a life of INTENTION. . . and my soul is so much better for it.
I dove deep into my spiritual side. I adopted a daily (most often 2x daily) meditation practice and incorporated breath work.
I journal affirmations and spend time reading them and repeating them to myself.
I look in the mirror every day and point out things I love about myself.
I stretch and move.
Before I eat anything, I spend a minute or two thinking about what I want and letting my thoughts sit with it to see if it actually sounds appealing, or if I’m eating it from a place of negative emotion.
I savor simple moments like drinking my warm cup of herbal tea or cacao.
I read and read and listen and listen and consume ideas and perspectives on life, then sift through the information either by myself or by sharing all I’ve learned with others, finding what resonates with me.
It’s not that I don’t struggle with the things. All the things. But the change in me and my self-love has only come as I’ve stopped working on result-driven goals like weight loss, dieting, specific tv-watching caps, gym hours, etc…
Ester Hicks once said that the most important thing, ever, is that you feel good.
And it seems selfish at first glance, but it’s not.
Because we can only give as much as we have.
So what are you hoping for in 2024?
Try replacing “lose 20 pounds” with “feel limber and good in my own skin.”
They’re radically different thoughts with radically different intentions.
Just ruminate on that. Sit with it. ❤️
