Robb Report recently explored why w**emakers are turning to single-clone Cabernet Sauvignon, and featured our own Clone 4 and Clone 7.

As w**emaker Elizabeth Vianna explains, the approach trades a blend's safety net for precision: without other fruit to lean on, a difficult vintage leaves nowhere to hide. Both clones began as blending components in the Estate Cabernet and Elevage before distinct personalities within the vineyard earned them bottlings of their own.

Clone 4, rooted in Mendoza, Argentina, offers black-toned fruit and a tannic structure built to age. Clone 7, known as the Concannon Clone and traced to Bordeaux's Château Margaux cuttings brought to California in 1893, leans toward cherry and raspberry with a plush, structured mouthfeel.
