We grow 90 varieties of veggies & herbs for our farmshare subscribers, farm to pantry program & summer farmstands. In early 2002, some friends who lived in the western suburbs of Chicago discussed their common interest in farm-fresh, locally-grown organic food, and their shared concerns about environmental sustainability. They wanted to take action on these issues and Green Earth Institute was bo
rn. Finding protected land in Naperville on which they could grow (known as The Conservation Foundation's McDonald Farm), was the perfect place to make it all happen. After 16 years of growing amazingly delicious and nutritious food for their community, the original founders, Steve Tiwald and Karen Hutt, decided to retire and asked The Conservation Foundation to continue the farm program. Green Earth Harvest is now one of 10 programs of The Conservation Foundation. We know healthy soil creates healthy plants, healthy people and ultimately a healthy community which is why we organically and sustainably grow the food that feeds you. Our dedicated crew plants, cultivates and harvests over 40 different vegetables with the goal of bringing eaters and growers together in ways that work for our community. Our farmshare program offers multiple-sized shares, weekly or every-other week pickups, two pickup days and off-farm pickups in Downers Grove, Lisle, Hinsdale, Lombard & Winfield. And, best of all, our farmshare participants always choose which veggies they take home - no set boxes. Explore and enjoy at your own pace. We grow for 700 farmshare participants in addition to our farm stand visitors and farm to pantry programs. We are proud to provide local, nutritious and delicious vegetables to our community through environmentally responsible farming practices - come join us!
