INDIO GIGANTE

Definitely a marmite chicken - you either love 'em or you hate 'em! I love these enormous gentle Brazilian giants. Males can grow up to a metre high so they really do command attention.
I'll be breeding a few next year so if you'd like to add a few of these amazing birds to your flock do let me know. Are you an Indio Gigante lover or hater? ❤️

Qual-ity Secret to raising friendly Mearns "hands off"

It's the warmth of companionship that gets our pair breeders through the winter. In Zone 7, overwintering juvenile and adult Mearns quail can be a challenge, as we house them in pairs during breeding season rather than in a covey where they can share body heat.

To keep them comfortable, we house them with our friendliest breed-Snowflake Bobwhites. These gentle birds not only help raise our Mearns chicks but also provide companionship and warmth during the colder months. In our large aviary, they sleep and cuddle together on freezing nights, forming bonds that make our Mearns incredibly tame. They eat from our hands, enjoy being preened, and all of this makes nail and beak maintenance effortless.

Come spring, the pairs are separated once again to enjoy the solitude of their breeding season, but the foundation of trust and friendship remains.

And the cycle of our snowflakes raising the summer babies repeats.

This Valentine's Day, we celebrate the power of companionship
—because sometimes, the secret is as simple as a quail finding warmth in a friend.
