🥩 A freezer beef update!

We are officially sold out of our October freezer beef.

Thank you to everyone who decided to put locally raised beef from Lick Creek Land & Livestock in their freezer. We're excited to see these cattle make their way to families in our community.

But if you missed the October opportunity, don't worry—we're already looking ahead.

We may have room for 1–2 more cattle for processing in December, January or early February.

If you'd like to reserve a quarter or half beef, now is the time to reach out and ask about availability.

Why do we move the cattle so often?

Our cattle typically move to a new section of pasture every 1–1½ days.

That means they're not continuously grazing the same piece of ground.

Instead, we give them access to fresh pasture and then allow the previously grazed area time to recover.

It's part of our regenerative approach to farming—working with the natural growth of the pasture instead of simply taking from it.

We're still learning, experimenting and figuring out what works best for our farm.

But that's what we love about farming.

Every day teaches you something new.

For our family, 4-H is about a lot more than showing an animal.

Justin grew up showing all kinds of livestock through 4-H, and those experiences had a huge influence on the person he became. He learned the value of hard work, responsibility, commitment, and taking pride in caring for an animal.

Now, we're getting to watch our own kids learn those same lessons.

That's a big part of why 4-H is so important to our family.

When we decided to bring livestock back to our farm, we knew we wanted to support that tradition in our own community. That's why our first feeder cattle came from 4-H exhibitors at the Wood County and Putnam County Fairs.

We knew how much time, work and care those kids had poured into their animals. We knew those calves had been handled, fed, cared for and loved by kids who had worked hard all year to get them ready for the fair.

And we wanted to be a part of what came next.

Now, our own kids are experiencing that same joy.

This summer, Allison raised a small flock of market chickens. She worked hard all summer—feeding them, caring for them, learning from them and getting them ready for the show ring.

Her hard work paid off with 5th place in showmanship and 7th place in skill-a-thon!

We couldn't be more proud of her.

It's pretty special to see the circle continue—from Justin's 4-H years, to buying our first feeder calves from local 4-H families, to watching our own kids learn the same lessons.

Hard work. Responsibility. Caring for livestock. And maybe most importantly, learning to be proud of what you can accomplish when you put in the work.

The life of a farmer… one thing we can’t and don’t do on our farm is bale our own hay. We custom hire. And with all the rain we’ve had it’s been hard to find a dry window big enough to get it cut, bailed and wrapped for winter. The custom guy we hire has had health issues, mechanical issues and quite frankly a very busy few weeks with our weather so tonight they’re burning the midnight oil because there’s a big rain in the forecast for these next 3 days. After I put our kids to bed I snuck out to get a few shots of them working. Over 60 bales to wrap and stack tonight. But we’ll have some happy cattle this winter.

This is what a good day looks like around here.

Fresh grass.
Fresh air.
Plenty of room to roam.

Our cattle live outdoors year-round and spend as many days as possible grazing pasture.

We rotate them to a new section approximately every 1–1½ days, giving the cattle fresh forage while allowing previously grazed areas time to recover.

It's one small piece of our goal to raise healthy cattle while taking good care of the land they're standing on.

And honestly, we think they're pretty happy with the arrangement.

It started with seven.

A little over a year ago, we took a pretty big step toward a goal we've had for our farm for a while.

We brought livestock back to our family farm.

We purchased seven feeder cattle from 4-H exhibitors in Putnam and Wood Counties, and those seven cattle became the beginning of Lick Creek Land & Livestock.

Our family has been farming this land for nearly 100 years. Now, as the fourth generation, we're excited to be writing the next chapter.

We're raising these cattle as naturally as possible, with a focus on pasture, soil health and regenerative practices.

And we're just getting started.

Follow along. We'd love to have you along for the ride.
