After ten years of miscarriages, we finally had our miracle baby girl — but when the nurse handed her to my husband, he went completely pale, stared at the birthmark on her shoulder, and whispered, ""No... that's impossible.""
My husband, Caleb, and I spent our whole marriage trying to create a family. Over the last decade, we faced six heartbreaking miscarriages. Each loss took a heavy toll on us, and by the time we discovered I was pregnant again last year, we had quietly agreed this would be our final attempt.
Due to our history, the last nine months were filled with constant anxiety. We hardly even set up the nursery, scared of getting our hopes up. But miraculously, everything went smoothly. When I finally went into labor yesterday morning, Caleb was incredibly supportive, staying right by my side through the long, tiring hours.
Just after midnight, our daughter finally arrived. Hearing her first loud, healthy cry was the greatest relief of my life. The pediatric nurse took her to the warming station to clean her up and run the standard checks, smiling as she told us we had a perfectly healthy baby girl.
A few minutes later, the nurse wrapped her in a warm blanket, leaving one tiny shoulder slightly exposed, and walked over to Caleb. He had tears in his eyes as he reached out and gently took his daughter into his arms for the first time.
I lay back against the pillows, smiling as I waited for that beautiful moment of connection. But as Caleb looked down, his expression completely changed. His smile disappeared, and the color drained from his face.
His eyes locked onto a small, distinct birthmark on her exposed shoulder. He stood completely still, his breathing suddenly shallow, and whispered, ""No... that's impossible.""
