"The Souls of St. Cloud Hill" is a historical reenactment that brings to life the stories of the United States Colored Troops whose sacrifice at the Battle of Nashville on Fort Negley ( also called St. Cloud Hill) helped shape the freedom we now celebrate as the Federal Juneteenth Holiday. Rooted in Nashville's local history, this work honors the voices and narratives too often left out of the story and brings them back to life through the artists who embody them.

✨ Written & Produced by Deyonna Fairbanks-Duskin, Multidisciplinary Cultural Artist

✨ Directed by Shawn Whitsell, founder of Destiny Theatre Experience

✨ This film was recorded and produced in-studio at NECAT Studios

This production was made possible with Metro Arts Thrive Grant funding and support through partnerships with FELLAVISION, AACA, and viewers like you!

Come experience this living history, meet the artists who brought it to life, and join the conversation about why these stories and this work must continue. 🙏🏾

Juneteenth615 is built by the community and sustained by the community.

Every year, this celebration creates space for us to gather, remember, dance, eat, learn, honor our ancestors, celebrate Black joy, and keep the story of freedom alive in Nashville.

But a celebration this powerful does not happen by chance.

It takes resources.
It takes planning.
It takes people.
It takes love poured into the details.

Your donation helps support the music, the history, the vendors, the family experiences, the fireworks, the cultural programming, and the community spaces that make Juneteenth615 possible.

This is more than giving to an event.

This is sowing into a legacy.
This is helping protect a celebration our community deserves.
This is making sure freedom continues to have a place to gather.

If Juneteenth615 has ever made you proud…
If it has ever brought your family together…
If it has ever reminded you of who we are and what we come from…

We invite you to give.

Every dollar helps us build something beautiful for the culture, for the city, and for the generations coming behind us.

Before Juneteenth615 became what it is today, there was vision.

There was commitment.
There was community.
There was a deep belief that Black freedom deserved to be remembered, celebrated, protected, and passed on.

Today, we honor Baba Kwame Lillard, the father of Juneteenth615.

His work helped create more than an event. It helped build a sacred space for remembrance, education, culture, celebration, and community gathering in Nashville.

Because of his vision, generations have been able to come together to honor our ancestors, celebrate Black liberation, uplift Black joy, and keep the meaning of Juneteenth alive in our city.

Juneteenth615 stands on the foundation he helped build.

As we continue expanding this celebration, we do so with gratitude for the elders, organizers, culture keepers, and freedom dreamers who made this possible.

Baba Kwame Lillard’s legacy reminds us that freedom is not only something we inherit.

It is something we protect.
It is something we teach.
It is something we celebrate.
It is something we carry forward.

We honor him.
We thank him.
We continue the work.

History is not just something we read.

It is something we remember.
Something we carry.
Something we bring to life.

At Juneteenth615, our reenactments help tell the story of freedom, struggle, resilience, and liberation in a way that connects generations.

These moments invite us to pause, reflect, and honor the people whose courage made this celebration possible.

Because Juneteenth is more than a date.

It is a living reminder that freedom was fought for, delayed, defended, celebrated, and carried forward.

Join us for Juneteenth615: The Freedom Exposition and experience history, culture, music, food, family, and community in one powerful celebration.

Freedom expands when we remember.
