Today we are highlighting some amazing from the extraordinary German wine importer . These Rieslings are heady, ethereal, profound and just plain mind blowing. Come check them out
H. Ludes, ‘Thornicher Ritsch - Gackes Unten Spatlese Feinherb’, Mosel, Germany, Riesling 2023
From a prime, central parcel of the Ritsch, under the “Gackes”, yet another local Mosel word for slate. 85 year old ungrafted vines. 18g of residual sugar, but there’s so much acid you almost can’t tell. Citrus, spice + herbs.
Stein, ‘Himmerlreich Kabinett Feinherb’, Mosel, Germany, Riesling 2024
Effectively Stein’s “1er Cru” vineyard with 70-80+ year old ungrafted vines with mostly blue slate. At 15g RS this shows incredible restraint. Ulli’s wines always have some additional layer of unquantifiable magic.
Julian Haart, ‘rote Erden’, Rheinhessen, Germany, Riesling 2024
From an ongoing vineyard trade with Keller in the Rheinhessen. A “village-level” wine from two Grand Cru sites with red soils: “rote Erden”. Succulent salty carmel + slick citrus. Dry.
