Mill Pond Alpacas We are a family owned full-service Huacaya alpaca farm, focused on sustainability, development, education and community. All families are welcome here at MPA.

Rooted in history and building new traditions, we offer guided tours, seed-stock and mentorship, and sell luxe alpaca wares. Mill Pond Alpacas is a 90 acre, family owned and operated Huacaya alpaca farm located in picturesque upstate New York, just 20 minutes east of Albany in Rensselear County. MPA offers farm tours BY APPOINTMENT ONLY, property rental for photography with vintage farm equipment available for staging, on-property parties and events, customized alpaca rental for your events, breeding and stud services, and livestock sales. MPA also boasts a small business alpaca product shop on-property and online, Mill Pond Mercantile. Our luxe alpaca products are made in the US with US grown alpaca, or WFTO fair trade guaranteed. Mill Pond Alpacas is an inclusive farm; we will always do our best to accommodate any mental health or mobility needs. Established in 2014, we started our journey into alpaca ownership because of our love for agriculture and a drive to instill that in our three daughters. We have since added a son to our group of farmhands. We are all smitten with the majestic nature of these sensitive and intuitive creatures, and hope to share that love with others. After two years of research and preparation, we choose our foundation herd in 2016, boasting exemplary bloodlines. Mill Pond Alpacas takes pride in giving our animals the utmost care through solid nutrition, a clean, healthy living environment, and conscientious individualized care. We strive to maintain quality bloodlines, producing crias with gentle temperaments and dense, full coverage, uniform crimp, and soft lustrous fleece. We are excited to continue this adventure in alpacas, and cannot wait to see what unfolds for MPA in the years ahead. At five weeks old, I finally caught Enoch drinking from a bucket! While milk remains Enoch’s primary source of nutrition for the first months of life, he’s been eating solids for weeks and I’m certain taking sips of water, too. His digestive system continues to develop, and over time he will require less and less nutrition from his dam, and take in food independently. Many farms wean males at 6-8 months. Depending on Enoch’s destiny, he will either be available for sale once weaned or remain here as a PR animal! He truly has the most mild and curious temperament, and is so easily handled.

Twiggy the kitty is notorious for climbing up onto things and getting stuck. Ascending to a treetop and screaming for help is how she earned her name, and ultimately why she was rescued and adopted by the farm. She had no trouble hopping down from her perch and startling the babies, though! 😆 The cria Enoch and Bronwyn know that Twiggy isn’t a threat, and quickly returned to watch this little fluffball bake in the sunshine. What a PERFECT autumn day. 🍂🦙🐈‍⬛

Play fighting helps cria build strength, agility and coordination. It also helps new members of the herd learn etiquette and hierarchy. It’s more common to see male cria fighting with their necks, wrestling, and nipping at ankles, but Bronwyn absolutely started it by barreling into Enoch and rearing up at him. This harmless scuffle ended as quickly as it began, and I was happy to catch a video. Sound up to hear them “yelling” at one another and dry spitting (expelling air but not actually regurgitating anything from their stomach chambers)!

The last of the Sugar Pie, Connecticut Field and Blue Jarrahdales pumpkins are ripening. It’s always sad to see our pumpkin vines wither, but that means their work is done and it’s time to harvest. Clearing out this prickly patch is scarier than losing it to deer this past spring 😳🎃.
