Mill Pond Alpacas is a 90 acre, family owned and operated Huacaya alpaca farm located in picturesque upstate New York, just 20 minutes east of Albany in Rensselear County. MPA offers farm tours BY APPOINTMENT ONLY, property rental for photography with vintage farm equipment available for staging, on-property parties and events, customized alpaca rental for your events, breeding and stud services,

and livestock sales. MPA also boasts a small business alpaca product shop on-property and online, Mill Pond Mercantile. Our luxe alpaca products are made in the US with US grown alpaca, or WFTO fair trade guaranteed. Mill Pond Alpacas is an inclusive farm; we will always do our best to accommodate any mental health or mobility needs. Established in 2014, we started our journey into alpaca ownership because of our love for agriculture and a drive to instill that in our three daughters. We have since added a son to our group of farmhands. We are all smitten with the majestic nature of these sensitive and intuitive creatures, and hope to share that love with others. After two years of research and preparation, we choose our foundation herd in 2016, boasting exemplary bloodlines. Mill Pond Alpacas takes pride in giving our animals the utmost care through solid nutrition, a clean, healthy living environment, and conscientious individualized care. We strive to maintain quality bloodlines, producing crias with gentle temperaments and dense, full coverage, uniform crimp, and soft lustrous fleece. We are excited to continue this adventure in alpacas, and cannot wait to see what unfolds for MPA in the years ahead. Be sure to reach out to schedule your farm tour, trip to the on-site Mercantile, or inquire about property or alpaca rentals. Much love, from our family to yours,
The Hartes of Mill Pond Alpacas

The undercarriage of an alpaca is like the radiator in a car; this very lightly fleeced body park helps with temperature regulation, and hosing off the herd cools them as the water evaporates!

This is Petunia. Petunia was our young children’s climbing tree long before she became part of an alpaca pasture. Long before there was an alpaca farm. Many years ago she was decimated in a storm, being blown over with roots exposed. At the time I refused to cut her down because of the sentiment attached to my then little ones creating memories on her branches. Each year I say a little prayer that she’ll bloom again, and each year she surprises me by turning green and reaching for the sun. Alas, it’s time to say goodbye to her many dead branches that give her no nourishment. We’ve planted dozens of trees on the farmstead over dozens of years, but none will ever be as precious as our Petunia.

Alas, we missed the killdeer egg hatching. 😢 Killdeer chicks are born fully feathered and ready to run to safety and food with mom, so I knew the chances of seeing them were slim to none. If we find another nest next season, I’ll be adding a trail cam to watch the process! At least I can now easily mow the unplanted section of the garden without worry of upset!
