Chicken Alley and our very own chicken tender Ellie, bid farewell to the last of our young pullets whom were patiently waiting to depart to thier new chicken palace and family. I have a feeling we will be hearing more of this awesome adoption story in the days ahead.

Earlier this evening I had to run to the store real quick and upon entering encounterd to elderly women- one in a scooter. In their cart were 2 big bags of animal food and I overheard them discussing how they would get everything loaded....
I approached and offered to lend a hand. At first they declined saying these are so heavy, but when I mentioned that 2 bags were nothing compared to the amounts of chicken feed I have handled they accepted my help and one lady went to get her car.
While the other lady and I waited she Said to me: "You wrote some chicken books, didn't you?"

My heart swelled! She proceeded to tell me she had read them all and loved the stories and the illustrations. I'm not super famous and my books are self published meaning I paid to print them, and am so very grateful to the locations that agree to sell them for me, but this was a big pile of inspiration to get started on book 4 soon! I have fans that know all about my books, and even recognized me as the illustrator and author. I am humbled!

I loaded the feed in their car and thanked them for allowing me to help!

We had a wonderful time at Olde Salem Days Festival today and I want to personally thank each & everyone who came by to say hello and support our small business!

A gentleman from The Salem Rotary told me the visitors were down 30% this year, and the lowest ever, but we wouldn't have known it because the 70% that were there made up for the ones we missed so much! Be sure to catch next year! Chicken Alley will be there!

Chicken Alley's very own Rainbow 🌈 made her big debut today at Rockbridge Spca 's Animal Adventure Camp!

We shared the story about Rainbow, and how she came to be a one legged chicken to inspire the kids to create thier own chicken story. I loved seeing so many different and outstanding artistic points of view!

As the promise of Spring finally starts to kick off with warmer weather and beautiful flowers, the Official Chicken Tenders of Chicken Alley wish you a fulfilling and productive spring and summer season ahead!

Life picks up pace with more sunshine, warmth, and longer days. For us this means more time in the gardens and on the alley caring for the flock. This spring is very different for us as well, Covid affected all businesses large and small, including Chicken Alley. Chicks were hard to come by last year. We received our orders later than expected and incubated as many as possible. We too at one time were limiting visits on the alley, and sales.

However now the results of those changes are now effecting Chicken Alley in different ways. We have an abundance of eggs from the late chicks that are now hard working laying hens. Chicken Alley has a large quantity of laying hens in a variety of breeds available for sale! We have lots of eggs for sale, now including duck eggs by special request.

We are hesitant to have chicks at this time as we would like to get Chicken Alley's flock back into the annual schedule of chicks in the spring, laying hens by fall, and downsizing stock for winter through fall sales.

Chicken Alley has always prided itself on the ability to sell you sexed birds. Unlike a straight run possibility of mostly roosters from the commercial stores. We have been able to help rebuild small flocks after predator attacks and are able to sell as little quantities as 1 single hen, or up to 50. But the very best thing about Chicken Alley's flock is that our official chicken tenders - STAFF have worked day in and out with these birds and have 99% of them so friendly and timid that they instantly become pets that lay food. Our laying hens are friendly, personable and just lovely overall!
Another great quality of Chicken Alley is the alley, call to schedule a walking tour down the alley, to see the community and meet our flock and its special members. Its truly a unique and fun experience.

Lastly thanks for following Chicken Alley and being patient with us, being faithful and supporting our small business and family.
