What does the term Maternal mean to you?
It seems as if every operation has a slightly different definition of maternal. Our opinion on this may be a bit skewed but this cow is pretty dang close to perfectly maternal. She breeds back on time or sticks to the AI. Can and will raise a set of twins. And always maintains a perfect body condition. This particular cow has a 140% lifetime average calf crop.
Is she the picture perfect donor everyone dreams of? Probably not but, maternal doesn’t have to fit in a box. I’ve seen 2,000 pound giants that were called maternal and I’ve seen 800 pound cows that were maternal. It’s all where your operations goals are and what you consider the perfect cow. Our perfect cow doesn’t have a specific shape size or weight. A good cow is a good cow no matter what she looks like on the outside.
