New days old ways💜

Well… after yesterday’s post about the steers, we learned that not everybody understands farm life. I wonder if they buy ground beef or steaks in the store? Just saying.

So I’m just wondering what they’re going to think about THIS. 😳🤣

Today I’m rendering lard from the hog we had processed. And judging by the amount of fat sitting in my kitchen, I’m pretty sure I’m making a year’s worth of lard. Maybe two. 😂

When I first got chickens many years ago, my best friend Vicki wouldn’t eat the fresh eggs. She said she’d rather buy eggs from the grocery store. 😂 Then one day her hubby fried her an egg and she had no idea it was one of ours. She said it was the BEST egg she’d ever eaten! I don’t think we ever told her that from then on, every time he cooked her eggs, she was eating fresh eggs. 🤷‍♀️😂

Nothing wasted. Nothing taken for granted. We raise it, process it, preserve it, cook with it, and thank the Lord for providing it.

This is farm life. It may not be everybody’s cup of tea—but it sure is ours. ❤️

Now excuse me while I go make approximately 47 gallons of lard. 😂😂😂 (* by the way. That’s a joke. I’ll let you know how much I get when I get it!)

Well today we were gifted this beautiful Berkshire boar who we named Bruce. Instead of taking him home he’s staying on the homestead with our girls, Amy Rose, Lucy and Sam. Feeling incredibly grateful.
