For all people who feel sad on harvest day, we understand. But know our chickens have had the time of their lives before harvest. They have been outside they have eaten bugs, they have run, played and been loved by children. Eaten good food free of gmos and pesticides. They were raised on our farm happy. We know no hormones or any fillers or water has been added. They were truly happy and have grown very good heathy meat. This has been our purpose because conventional birds live a very different life. We give thanks at harvest knowing our birds lived a good life and will now provide us with healthy food . Know where your food comes from, expect happy animals at harvest and always give thanks. It takes time and love in our farming to have truly healthy food.

Mama and her babies finally out to forage 6 weeks old . Aunt Sabrina and Dad all together enjoying the outside. The fox came two weeks ago so we have kept everyone in. Finally some enjoyable time on the farm. 💜

The second group of Cornish rocks moved into their new spot. Happy to be outside. We settled them in and proceeded to the garden. An enjoyable day makin things happen. We are tooling around getting some posts , enjoying the turkeys to suddenly look over and see one of these chickens severely injured. We think maybe fox but the marking aren’t from a mammal. Earlier I had chased layers out of this run, they were pestering these. Well pestering turned to outright bullying from the layer hens, they pecked at at least 6 of the 12 injuring 2 so severely they would not survive. We have since closed any areas they can infiltrate, it’s been 13 years since we have had aggressive birds and this came as a surprise because it was hens not a rooster. People think chickens eat grain and don’t go for blood, they aren’t carnivorous. That’s how marketing has trained society, they eat grain yes but they prefer protein. Bugs, worms , mice, snakes, and when they are a holes they go after each other.
