Today Mike and I headed to Indianapolis to help my uncle, and along the drive… we passed farm after farm.

You know the kind — big beautiful barns, more animals than you can count, everything looking so put together. And I’ll be honest… I caught myself looking over at Mike saying,
👉 “We can have that.”
👉 “We can build that.”
👉 “I want those.”

And he just smiles… because he already knows 😄

My Thanksgiving cactus blooms in October November December apparently in March and who knows what other months. I edited this cause I thought there were only Christmas cactus. Today I learned there are Thanksgiving cactus, Christmas cactus and Easter cactus. So my thanksgiving cactus likes to bloom throughout the year.

🐴🌾 Meet Cheyenne – Our Daytime Watcher 🌾🐴

This is Cheyenne, my 19-year-old Paint Quarter Horse… and she’s more than just a horse—she’s part of the farm’s security team.

During the day, Cheyenne is always watching. If an animal—or even a person—comes onto the property that doesn’t belong, her ears go up and her head turns straight in that direction.

And when she knows something isn’t right… she lets it be known.

She’ll start pawing the ground and make this deep, almost bear-like sound. Not loud, not frantic—just enough to say,“Something’s here… pay attention.”

There’s something about the way she stands there, alert and focused. Like she’s saying,“I see it… and you should too.”

At 19 years old, she’s got that wisdom about her. She doesn’t react to everything—but when she does, I listen.

Out here, we don’t just rely on fences and locks. We rely on instinct, awareness, and animals that care about this place.

And Cheyenne… she’s been watching over it for a long time ❤️

Last night reminded me exactly why I’ve always believed in having a pack of dogs. ❤️🐾

Yesterday morning, before heading to work, I went out to start my car and let it warm up. It was still dark, quiet… but I had that uneasy feeling. Like I was being watched.

I brushed it off and went on with my day.

But last night… I couldn’t sleep.

Out of nowhere, my 14-year-old cur dog, Chelsea, started barking. And let me tell you—her nose is still never wrong.

Next thing I know, all the dogs are flying out the dog door like, “Something’s not right.”

I grabbed my flashlight (no glasses, no slippers… just barefoot in my pajamas 😅) and followed them out. I stood there watching their movements.

Every single one of them knew.

They were all lined up near the Rhode Island coop by the fence—
Bella (my 8-year-old husky) doing a low growl…
Chelsea (my 14-year-old cur dog) with her nose in the air, already locked onto the predator…
Whiskey (my 6-year-old cur) standing strong beside Bella, hackles up…
Bo and Luke (my 2-year-old Blue Heeler/Pit mixes) locked in…
And even little Georgie (my 9-year-old mini poodle) standing his ground.

Not one bark. Just that low growl from Bella.
That kind of silence tells you everything.

I followed their line of sight with my flashlight… and there they were.

Two sets of eyes.
Right outside the barn near the goat pen.
Most likely coyotes… watching, waiting.

I stood with my dogs. I knew if they got out of that yard, it would’ve been a fight. After what felt like seconds, those eyes disappeared.

I went back inside, checked the cameras, and tried to settle back down… but then Chelsea went off again—and just like that, the whole pack was back out the door. This time, whatever it was didn’t stick around.

That feeling I had that morning?
I wasn’t wrong.

Let me tell you something—

When you have a pack like this, you don’t stand alone.

And if anything ever thinks about coming onto this farm to harm my animals…
you might want to rethink that decision.

And my 14-year-old girl? She’s still leading the pack. ❤️🐾

🌿 Before Pharmacies… There Was the Land 🌿

Before stores, before prescriptions, before shelves full of medicine…
people turned to the earth.

There were medicine men, medicine women, healers, and shamans—people who understood plants, seasons, and the natural ways our bodies respond to what the land provides.

They didn’t have labs…
they had knowledge passed down through generations.

Things like:
• Willow bark for pain and fevers
• Plantain for bites, cuts, and skin healing
• Elderberry for immune support
• Mint for digestion
• Yarrow for wounds

And honestly… a lot of that knowledge still holds true today.

Out here on the farm, I’ve been learning more about foraging and natural remedies—not because I know it all (I definitely don’t), but because I want to understand what’s growing right in front of me.

🌱 There’s something powerful about knowing your land can provide.
