One of our recently completed designed and installed landscapes completed in May 2026. The plants are putting out new growth. The several species of palms installed, grown from seed right here in Craven County, will grow up in place and look better early on as compared to transplants from the wild in Florida that take several years to recover and establish a full crown.

As people find out about our locally grown cold hardy palms they come from many areas from across the country. Yesterday we had a visitor from Florida then today visitors from Pennsylvania. This sweet lady picked out a Teddy Bear Magnolia but also a Butia odorata. When I told her there was no way that would live there she explained that she had a greenhouse she would keep it in. We shared our growing experiences with each other. Thankful for another palm friend.

A visitor from Florida and one from Raleigh came by today to purchase a large 7 gal green form Sabal uresana and some 3 gallon Craven County Sabal Minors. We are thankful for the many folks that travel long distances to purchase and talk about palms. As many do, they wanted a photograph to remember their visit.

We usually sell Sabal Minor in 3 gallon sizes and up but we have had so many requests to sell one gallon that we have decided to sell some this Spring. These are Craven County native with beautiful greenish blue leaves. Deer resistant pollinator plants that attract bees and butterflies. The birds enjoy the seed. www.garysnursery.com

How it all begins.

We grow thousands of palms in containers from one gallon to sometimes fifteen gallon size. It all starts in the Fall when we collect seed from all the old large palms growing at our home and our nursery. During the late Winter we planted well over 50,000 seed and now they are germinating rapidly. Soon they will planted in small pots to start them on their journey to larger sellable plants.

'Teddy Bear' Magnolia. Smaller, slow growing magnolia with perfect Christmas tree shape without pruning. Rich, dark green foliage and beautiful white flowers in spring.
