Today was a tough day at FHCC.
We typically savor summer days on the farm! Making hay, watching the calves grow, getting ready for county fairs and even taking sale photos are favorite activities.
Unfortunately this day was very different. I got the call mid-morning that our sale barn, office and bunkhouse was on fire.
Thankfully, everyone was able to get out safely.
The fire started in the machinery area of the building but very quickly engulfed the barn in flames and thick black smoke. Fast thinking and some pretty significant and brave action by our crew saved the semen and embryo tanks.
However, despite heroic efforts by the seven responding fire departments, the barn and most of the contents were a total loss.
We are so thankful tonight first of all for the fire crews that came to our aid and battled the fire in 100 degree heat for most of the day. We wish we had individual names but we'd like to extend our sincerest appreciation and thanks to the Central Callaway, New Bloomfield, Millersburg, Fulton, North Callaway, South Callaway and Holts Summit fire departments. Thank you for being there for us!!
A big thank you to our friends, family and crew for your efforts and dedication on a day that was not easy.
Finally, we'd also like to thank the many neighbors, friends and fellow cattlepeople that stopped by in person or reached out with a text or call to offer your assistance. We are humbled and very appreciative of your support.
November 16th isn't far away. We aren't exactly sure what the path will be between now and then but we remain committed to hosting our 13th annual Family Values Sale on that date. We hope you can be with us then. Thank You!
