Our friend Max Stabel was laid to rest today at 2 pm at the exact same time the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo kicked off the 2026 show. Quite a fitting tribute to someone who loved this event so much. We are working hard to carry on the Ranch House legacy that Max and Marsha have built over the last 5 decades. Today started out with beautiful weather and tremendous crowds. We know Max is here in spirit with us. Rest in peace Max!

We are deeply saddened by the passing of our friend, Max Stabel.

Max and his wife Marsha, owned Ranch House Smoked Meats in Menard, Texas. They were pillars of the meat industry and generous mentors to so many. Their commitment to quality and tradition left a lasting mark on everyone who had the privilege of knowing them.

1845 Meat Co. is proud to carry on their legacy of exceptional products as 1845 Ranch House Smoked Meats.

Rest in peace, Max. Our heartfelt condolences and prayers are with Marsha and the entire Stabel family.

We are open until 5 p.m. today and tomorrow (always closed on Sundays!). We will also be open Monday, Tuesday until 5 p.m. and Christmas Eve until noon.

There are lots of special treats from which to choose.
Starting off with 1 lb. packages of pecan halves for all those getting ready to bake your German cookies for Christmas.
