Wellllll… this rooster finally crossed the line. πŸ“πŸ˜€

For weeks, this boy seemed convinced he could attack me whenever he pleased! πŸ€¦β€β™€οΈ

Three weeks ago, he started with that one-wing threat dance. He was met with a broom and even got sprayed with the hose. πŸ’¦

Two weeks ago, he flogged my leg, so I caught him with a net and carried him around for an hour. After that, he kept his distance… for a while. πŸ˜’

Last week, he came at me AGAIN! I defended myself with a feed scoop near the barn, chased him off, and pinned him down.

But tonight? He flew straight at my FACE and HEAD! πŸ˜³πŸ“

That was the final straw. I fought him off, got my Savage .22, and put him down.

His beautiful sword tail feathers will have a place on my hat. πŸͺΆ

I can tolerate a lot from my chickens, but I will NOT keep a rooster that attacks people at face level. Safety comes first, and this boy had more than enough chances. πŸ“β€οΈ

Chicken friends, I could really use some advice! πŸ“β€οΈ
This sweet boy was kicked out of his flock about a year ago, and ever since, he's been living a little differently. πŸ₯Ή He sleeps in his own crate in our basement with food and water, and every morning, once he starts crowing and waking everyone up, I take him outside. πŸ˜‚πŸ”
During the day, he free ranges around the run where the rest of the flock stays. When I get home from work and on weekends, I let the others out. They mostly leave him alone, aside from an occasional chase by another rooster. They definitely know who he is!
Here's my dilemma… πŸ€” My husband wants to try reintroducing him to the flock by putting him in the coop at night and keeping him in the run during the day. We've tried it for two days now, and everything seems fine until morning. Then the others go after him like they're trying to kill him! πŸ˜πŸ’” I can't stand watching it, so I let him back out.
Honestly, he seems perfectly happy being the outsider, and I don't mind the extra work. ❀️ But we live in Indiana, where winters get pretty cold, and my husband worries that moving him from the cold outdoors to our warmer basement every night and back outside each morning could harm him.
We've had chickens for almost 3 years, but this is new territory for us. πŸ”πŸ’• I really don't think the flock will accept him again.
What would you do? Keep his current routine or continue trying to reintroduce him? I'd especially love advice from experienced chicken keepers! πŸ₯Ήβ€οΈ

Y'all, have you ever seen a chicken covered in HEARTS?! πŸ˜πŸ”πŸ’• Just had to show off this beautiful girl! Her feathers have the cutest little heart patterns all over them, and I'm completely obsessed! πŸ₯Ήβ€οΈ

I have no idea what breed she is. She was a random pullet from Tractor Supply, and she's the only one in my flock that looks like this! πŸ“πŸ’–

And YES, I put a little lipstick on her! πŸ’„πŸ˜‚ She's a fancy girl and deserves to look the part! πŸ’•πŸ‘‘πŸ€£

My heart is absolutely broken today. πŸ’”πŸ”πŸ˜ We came home to find that we'd lost all 3 of our hens. Our rooster survived, but sadly, his lady is gone. πŸ₯ΊπŸ’”
We have 7 chicks that are 12 weeks old, and we'd just started letting them explore the run. Thank goodness we locked them up before leaving, because otherwise we probably would've lost them too. 😒❀️
Since we got home, our rooster has been crowing nonstop. πŸ“πŸ’” Could he be grieving the loss of his girls, or is he reacting to the new chicks?
I'm also wondering if it's safe to introduce him to the younger ones or if we should wait. I feel so sad, overwhelmed, and honestly a little lost right now. 😭
Has anyone been through something similar? I'd really appreciate some advice from experienced chicken keepers. πŸ”β€οΈπŸ™

Our hearts are a little heavier today. πŸ’”πŸ”πŸ•ŠοΈ

Our sweet Joelle was one of our original girls, and she turned 7 years old this past March. ❀️ She was always so curious about her human family, loved being carried around, and proudly took on the role of the coop's little ambassador. πŸ₯ΉπŸ’• Even the roosters respected her and let her strut right alongside them without bothering her.

Two days ago, I noticed she wasn't quite herself. Then this morning, she made her way up to the house and sat outside, almost as if she had come to say her final goodbye. πŸ˜’πŸ’”

I held her in my arms for an hour until she peacefully took her last breath. πŸ•ŠοΈβ€οΈ

Rest easy, our beautiful Joelle. You were so much more than just a chicken. Our little farm will never be quite the same without you. πŸ”πŸŒˆπŸ’•

A year ago, my husband said absolutely NO to getting chickens… and yesterday, while I was at work, he sent me THIS picture! πŸ˜‚πŸ“β€οΈ

Our rooster Chica has a little bedtime problem. Instead of going into the coop with the rest of the flock, he comes to our back door and peeks inside at us! πŸ₯ΉπŸ’• We usually have to bribe him with treats to get him back to the coop. There's another rooster who bosses him around, so I think that's why he doesn't want to go in.

Well, apparently my husband couldn't resist those sweet little eyes last night! πŸ˜‚β€οΈ He felt sorry for Chica, opened the back door, and invited him inside for a little visit before taking him back to the coop.

And this is the SAME man who didn't want chickens in the first place! πŸ€£πŸ”πŸ’• Funny how they always end up stealing the biggest hearts! πŸ₯°

This year, I planted morning glories around my chicken coop, and they've turned out to be wonderful for providing shade! πŸŒΈπŸ”πŸŒΏ Luckily, there's a double fence where they're growing, which helped them climb and kept the chickens from pecking them to pieces! πŸ˜‚πŸ’š
And here's the funny part… a squash plant decided to join the party, too! πŸŽƒπŸ€£ I didn't even plant that one! Apparently, it's a little surprise from the squash I fed the chickens last year! πŸ“πŸŒ±πŸ’•
