Iโve been MIA because the last couple of weeks have been tough!
I shared a picture of my barn cat ๐ฑ Wilbur a few weeks ago- I was shocked to see him laying out in the open- and more surprised he didnโt run away as I approached.
Wildly, what I did not notice in that photo was that his head was double its normal size due to a massive abscess! ๐คข He got hurt (most likely by a woodchuck living under our deck- with its entire newborn family ๐คฆ๐ผโโ๏ธ) - about 4 days after that photo I noticed the side of his face was essentially blown open ๐ค
Heโs a very skittish cat so I rarely had eyes on him for long. When I noticed this - after freaking out - and trying to figure out, how am I going to treat a feral cat?
I canโt pet him.
He hides when we walk outside.
So I reached out to the local cat whisperer, Elaine (who may or may not want to be tagged) and she helped me set a special kind of trap (did you know itโs very hard to trap most cats ๐ twice? Mine wonโt enter a have a heart trap EVER).
She also helped me get antibiotics. LONG story short- by mixing the medicine into little churus (aka kitty crack) I managed to get 16 doses in him over two weeks. ๐๐ป
While he is healing well- it was very gory for awhile - he may never have fur on that side of his face again.
But my big win? HE COMES WHEN I CALL HIM!!!
He gets within two feet of me!
He tried to come in the house the other morning! I should add Iโve been up every day between 4:30-5:30am to put out meds and food.
My little miracle kitty! ๐
Photos are not all great- I had to use my ring camera to spy on him- they are in reverse order - most recent first. I am so grateful for Eileenโs help!
