I saw a post recently that said, “America isn’t running short on farmers. We’re running out of people who can afford to farm.”

And boy, isn’t that the truth.

I know history repeats itself. I know agriculture has been through hard times before, and I know farmers are some of the most resilient people you’ll ever meet. But that doesn’t make what’s happening right now any easier.

I know some really good farmers, people who do everything right, who have had to scrape the bottom of the barrel, take on another job or find another source of income just to keep the farm going. Not because they’ve forgotten how to farm, or they aren’t willing to work. It’s the numbers that don’t work.

Right now, it feels like everything is working against the farmer. Inputs, interest, equipment, repairs, insurance and land costs keep climbing, while we’re still selling commodities into a market where we have very little control over what we’re paid.

And somehow, we’re expected to just keep finding a way.

Maybe we will. Farmers usually do.

I just hope and pray that everyone can stay afloat long enough to see the other side of this cycle. Because once a family farm is gone, getting it back isn’t nearly as easy as losing it.

There are plenty of people willing to farm. We just have to make sure they can afford to keep doing it.

And how to do that? I have no idea…

This farm keeps things simple: naturally raised animals, hormone-free meat, and a farm-to-freezer kind of setup.

🚨 BREAKING: New Jersey residents are reminding everyone that the Garden State still produces some of the most important fruits, vegetables, seafood, dairy products, and family-grown food in America… and many believe New Jersey farmers, fishermen, and local producers deserve far more support than they currently receive. 🇺🇸🍅🫐🌊❤️
From blueberry fields and cranberry bogs across South Jersey… to peach orchards, vegetable farms, and dairy operations throughout the state… to commercial fishing communities along the Jersey Shore… local farming and fishing remain deeply connected to New Jersey's identity every single day. 🌊🚜
While millions of people think of New Jersey as beaches, highways, New York City suburbs, and boardwalk tourism… many forget that beyond the cities sits a massive network of farms, orchards, fisheries, forests, and rural communities that helped shape the state for generations. 🌾⚓
New Jersey has long been known for:
• blueberries 🫐
• cranberries 🍒
• tomatoes 🍅
• peaches 🍑
• sweet corn 🌽
• dairy farms 🥛
• seafood and commercial fishing 🎣
• family-owned farms 🚜
• roadside farm markets 🧺
• and generations of hardworking New Jersey families connected to both the land and sea alike.
Many New Jersey farmers and fishermen say they continue facing major challenges every year, including:
• rising fuel costs ⛽
• unpredictable weather and coastal storms 🌪️
• flooding and erosion 🌊
• expensive land prices 💰
• labor shortages 🚜
• pressure from nonstop development 🏗️
• farmland disappearing beneath subdivisions 🏘️
• and rural communities struggling to keep pace with growth and expansion. 🚧🚗
Some longtime residents say areas that were once quiet farmland, forests, and small farming towns are now becoming increasingly crowded with warehouses, subdivisions, and heavy traffic. 🌲🚙
Across New Jersey, many families are encouraging others to:
🫐 buy New Jersey blueberries
🍅 support local farms
🍑 support local orchards
🎣 support New Jersey fishermen
🥬 buy New Jersey-grown produce
❤️ and help keep rural New Jersey communities alive for future generations.
Because once farmland, orchards, forests, wetlands, and fishing communities disappear… it becomes incredibly difficult to ever bring them back again. 🌾🌊
For many people across New Jersey, farming and fishing are not just industries — they're family history, culture, tradition, and pride passed down across generations. 👨‍🌾⚓❤️
The blueberry harvest in summer…
The cranberry bogs in autumn…
The fishing boats leaving before sunrise along the Jersey Shore…
The roadside farm stands packed with fresh produce…
The smell of freshly cut hay drifting across the countryside…
The sunset reflecting across Delaware Bay or the Atlantic Ocean…
That's still a huge part of New Jersey life. 🌅🫐🌊
And honestly… there's something uniquely New Jersey about driving through farmland in the morning… then reaching the beach by afternoon. 😂🌊
Some residents say supporting local agriculture and New Jersey fisheries now matters more than ever — not only for the economy, but for preserving the culture, independence, and small-town communities that helped shape New Jersey for generations. 🇺🇸❤️
Because Newark, Jersey City, and Atlantic City may drive commerce and tourism… but the farms, fisheries, forests, and coastal communities are still part of what keeps New Jersey running every single day. 🚜⚓🍅🌲🌊
