Hello Friends,
Sorry that it has been so long between posts but we have been busy at the vineyard. There was that trip to Minnesota for the Midwest haskap seminar in June. I took the Badger across Lake Michigan and picked my way through northern Wisconsin (doing Wisconsin things like supper clubs - more on that later). I came back through the U.P. where I was able to pick up a load of cedar posts at Haske Post in Cedarville for the vineyard.
I attended a Veteran's Farming Symposium in Shipshewana IN of all places. I made some interesting contacts there and had an Amish turkey plate lunch that would nearly rival the Turkey Roost in Kawkawlin MI (which is the standard by which to judge all turkey dinners).
Now we are into harvest at the vineyard and the grapes are still a little tart. I think some of them may be ready this coming weekend. Labor Day will be aptly named for me this year. There is a lot of labor yet to be done on the farm. Fortunately, I was able to carve out a little spot to spend the night on the fun side of the farm across Dorrence Creek.
Is that an alien crop circle in the picture? No, silly, that this the space where the tent will go. I mowed the grass extra short under the tent. Yes, I put up a tent on the fun side of the farm. We are going to try it out this fall and maybe rent it out next year - depending on how we work out the bathroom details... The tent is a Stout bell tent and it is about 16 feet across. The furniture is made in Wisconsin by Best Craft and I found it at Page's Furniture in Montague - just down the road. The bed will be installed this week so I will have more pictures. It, too, is red pine rustic. I think the furniture fits well with camp. What do you think?
Let me know in the comments.
