Sierra finally got a real “candlelight” for her eggs!

“Egg candling is a process commonly used to assess the fertility and development of eggs, particularly during the incubation period. It involves shining a light source, typically a bright and focused beam of light, through an eggshell to observe the internal contents of the egg.”

For us it also helps show minor cracks we didn’t notice with naked eye.

Looking back on all our farm memories today! One of my favorite Sierra videos.
We don’t have bees anymore currently but it’s always a thought to start them back up again!

We’ve added to our flock! We welcomed about 6 new laying hens to the farm.

I believe this brings our total to 28 chickens, 3 baby chicks (an oops from a very persistent broody hen), 1 (there is possibly a second) rooster.

4 ducks, 5 Sebastool geese and 1 lonely turkey.

Oh and a partridge in a 🍐 🌳. Just kidding!

We’ve had some naughty feathered friends. Finding eggs in places they shouldn’t be.

This gal looks ready for Halloween!
She is a Ayam Cemani!

The Ayam Cemani is a rare breed of chicken from Indonesia. The name comes from the Indonesian words ayam meaning "chicken" and cemani meaning "entirely black". The Ayam Cemani is a highly valued breed due to a rare condition called fibromelanosis, which causes an excess of dark pigment.
