Fall is definitely here, and it’s time for that popular classic braised dish – Gulasch. At Gunpowder Falls Brewing , we make a traditional Austrian Gulasch. This isn’t the “goulash” your mama made, which was basically modified sloppy Joe’s. Nope. Not at all. This isn’t ground beef smothered in ketchup with maybe some carrots and onions added to it. If you were lucky a couple of weenies cut up and tossed in, too. All served over some egg noodles.

This is an Austrian "Gulasch" which has a rich, velvety sauce made from a serious amount of onions (15 pounds here!) and paprika that slowly simmers with the meat for a good number of hours until it has all reduced down until it is thick and savory. Traditionally, it is served with a serving of Spätzle.

For those who missed it or weren’t aware, our Oktoberfest Märzen was tapped last weekend and is now available. Our traditional Bavarian style Märzen pairs exceptionally well with this classic Austrian dish. The pleasant bread-like taste with the malty aroma enhances the deep savory flavor of the paprika and onions. Not gonna’ lie, you’ll probably have two or three of these. (Darn the luck.) Prost!

Oktoberfest flew by faster than a Bavarian drinking a liter of Bier this year. So here at Gunpowder Falls Brewing we figured we should probably get around to tapping a keg or two of our much sought after Märzen. It’s about time after all; we know.

This Friday the 2nd of Oktober is the day most of you’ve been waiting for since last year. The annual tapping of the Gunpowder Falls Brewing Märzen. The Bier starts flowing at 5:00 along with traditional Oktoberfest food.

At Gunpowder Falls Brewing we are Old School. We appreciate tradition. We know that when something is a classic, it shouldn’t be changed; thinking that we can make it “better”. (That might actually be the realm of the Hipster-Wannabe.) Take the hamburger. The most iconic of American foods brought to us by German immigrants.

We offer this traditional American classic with handcut Fries and a clean, refreshing L***r Bier on Thursday Nights for just $16.97.

Think about that. There have been any number of places adapting, changing, and thinking they can make this bedrock of American cuisine better, but at the end of the day, it all comes down to a few simple ingredients.

French fries are also an inseparable part of eating a hamburger. It’s a combination that has occurred for more than 100 years. To offer anything else or not at all is inconceivable! A sin to an American institution. Shame on those who disrespect this most traditional of American meals.

The first weekend of Fall, and at Gunpowder Falls Brewing we’re starting it off with a very traditional Bavarian meal. Rinderrouladen or stuffed beef rolls in english. (After all, who doesn’t like to stuff their beef?) Rouladen is a dish made from thinly sliced beef that is pounded flat, slathered with mustard, and stuffed with bacon, onions, and pickles. It is then braised in a rich, red w**e sauce until the beef is fork tender. They are traditionally served with Blaukraut (braised red cabbage) and Kartoffelknödel (potato dumplings).

The Gunpowder Falls Brewing Dunkel pairs wonderfully with this meal. It is nicely malty, full-bodied and mild in finish. The roast aroma and light sweetness from the dark malts combine perfectly with the beef and savory sauce.

Bang! Bang! Tasty Bites That Delight With Refreshing L***r Bier at Gunpowder Falls Brewing. This weekend we’re spicing things up with a staff fav – Firecracker Meatballs.

These nuggets of meat are popping with flavor and a nice little kick from the creamy, spicy, sweet, and savory sauce that’ll make your taste buds explode! These meatballs are a mixture of pork and beef with scallions, ginger, panko crumbs, and soy sauce that are plated atop sesame-seed-flecked rice with green scallions.

Pair these flavor bombs for the mouth with our Export Hell L***r Bier. The medium body and clean maltiness of this Bier balances out the mild spiciness of the dish. Poured with a proper “head” that any Bavarian would approve of, it enhances the mild hop aroma and clean taste of this golden L***r Bier.

Pork. The hands down favorite meat of the Germans. For those who aren’t familiar or haven’t been to Germany, pork is pretty much everywhere. It’s like chicken is to Americans.

At Gunpowder Falls Brewing, we love the pork, too, and this weekend is no exception. Our man Clay Godfrey who owns 3 Sons Meats in Seven Valleys and at the Eastern Market in York has hooked us up with some of his choicest pork tenderloins. This can mean only one thing for us. It’s time for the Bavarian late summer tavern classic of pork tenderloin medallions in mushroom cream sauce with spätzle and sauteed green beans. (Schweinsmedaillons mit Schwammerlsoße und Spätzle)

Our Bier recommendation this week is the Export Hell. We just filtered a tank of it, so it is super fresh. It is also exceptionally well balanced, clean and smooth.
