We know this is a scary and uncertain time. Events continue to be postponed or canceled. And we’re hearing new terms—social distancing, shelter in place, etc.—used more often. But cows (not market prices) make everything better.

Today is National Ag Day! Every part of society is important and we know that farmers couldn't farm without Ag businesses, processors, truckers, distributers, marketers, and consumers. But farmers are an awesome community of people around the world who produce a vast amount of products you use and consume every day! Share this video if you love farmers!

You’re right Mr. Bloomberg. “Farming is easy.”

It was an EASY split second decision for me to sneak up behind this first calving heifer and pull the amniotic sac off of her newborn babies nose, so he could breathe.
.......

It is EASY for me to turn my giant bathtub into a piglet nursery, when it is 30 below zero outside.
.....
It is EASY for me to grab blankets off of my own bed and wrap a wet, cold, newborn calf in them. Or to take MY towels and dry them off.
......
It is EASY for me to reach shoulder deep into a struggling mother cow’s rear to help deliver a baby calf, or a sow delivering piglets.
.....
It is EASY for me to at 6months pregnant load a calf into my Grand Prix and rush it to the vet.
.....
It is EASY for me to be covered in blood, amniotic fluid, urine, and cattle feces, before I make my way in for dinner that evening.
........
It is EASY to build fences, & corrals, &barns, & breeding programs, & relationships ,& families when you are the kind of strong people we are.
....
It is EASY for us because we are #strong We are #resilient We are #selfmotivated We are #passionate We are #determined We are #courageous We are #tough We are full of spirit & grit.

This is a not an EASY lifestyle. Trust me.And I would have to disagrees that you could teach “anyone in this room” what we do. But when you are doing what God has called you to do, the rough and difficult patches, or barriers that shut other people down, you can break with ease.
.....
It is EASIER to be the person God has called you to be. #myherdfuelsme

Get the facts people. Talk to a farmer/rancher rather than listening to a celebrity who has little to know background information on the issue. #EatBeef #AgProud

Ellen once stated: “50 billion animals a year are killed and I think we all fool ourselves that there is some kind of happy cow and that it’s a quick death, that they just hit him in the head and that they are out.

“They are all in pain, they are all treated badly. They are all diseased and they are all pumped with antibiotics. It’s a very disturbing reality...”

Except...that’s not how it happens. That’s not even close to how it happens. I like Ellen. I think she does some really incredible things for people and animals. But, what I don’t love, is how she is using her global platform to perpetuate misinformation, dare I say lies, about livestock producers.

I could get into the whole discussion of how cow farts are ruining the environment, but I’m not a scientist, so I’ll leave that to my friends like @foodsciencebabe.

I will, however, speak to the accusations of animal maltreatment.

The animals are not all pumped with antibiotics. Do they get sick? Sure. Are they treated with an antibiotic if they’re sick? They can be, so long as they are not part of a special “all natural” program, that I won’t get into right now.

If cattle are given an antibiotic, that animal must go through a very strict “withdrawal” period before it can be slaughtered. All beef is tested prior to packaging and if a facility is not adhering to these strict antibiotic protocols, the meat is condemned and wasted, and the facility can be fined or even shut down.

And on a very basic economic level, antibiotics are expensive. So, unless it is absolutely necessary, antibiotics don’t make financial sense. But, according to Ellen, we’re just shooting antibiotics at everything that moves.

Cattle are not mistreated. Are there isolated incidents of mistreatment? I’m sure there are, but that is the exception. NOT the standard. It would be like saying all dogs are mistreated after reading a story about one person abusing their own dog. Generalizations are dangerous.

A happy animal is going to produce the best results. A happy cow will milk better. A happy steer will gain weight faster.

I’ll speak to what I know personally-cattle raised for beef are fed Thanksgiving dinner three times a day. Every day.

They have all the water they can drink. There are regulations in place to ensure they have adequate space in which to live.

I have a feeling, though, that facts aren’t what people are interested in. Facts are boring. Sensationalism is what sells. And rather than taking the time to speak to the hard working individuals who actually live this life, it’s more appealing to regurgitate fabricated information and feign outrage.

See, what is so disappointing about Ellen specifically, is that she preaches inclusion and education. If I remember correctly, at the close of every show, she says “be kind to one another”.

Well, Ellen, perpetuating gross misinformation about the industry tasked with feeding our country is not kind. In fact, it’s incredibly irresponsible.

Spent some time with our girls this evening. They are so content it even made us feel calm! Of course another one of our cows who was supposed to calve at a different date dropped a calf on us so the new little man is enjoying frolicking with his mom (he’s adorable and looks like his deceased daddy 🥰😢). I’m so pleased with how good our girls look ❤️🐮

As we move into the grazing season remember to monitor utilization of pasture and rangeland. Grazing at higher than 50% use depletes root reserves and requires a longer recovery time between grazing periods. Long term over use can result in decreased forage production and ecosystem health.

Our Story

We started back in 2000 with purebred Gelbvieh cattle; showing them at our county fair in Iowa. We finally broke into the show circuit in 2005 and that marked the real starting point to our journey. In 2009 we entered into more competitive breeds such as Angus and Shorthorn and it has only grown from there. We’ve successfully shown all over the state of Iowa with the I.J.B.B.A (Iowa Junior Beef Breeders Association) as well as at the National Western Stock Show in Denver and the Simmental Junior Nations in Texas.

In 2013 we made the move to New Glarus, WI and with that move we put a lot on hold as far as our show lives went. We are still currently raising Angus, Balancer, Gelbvieh, Shorthorn, Shorthorn Plus and Commercial cattle. We hope that with our two young children growing we can get them in the show ring as soon as humanly possible. They both love all our cows as well as their lives on the farm. Hopefully you’ll get to see us back in the show ring soon!

Thank you for stopping to take a look at our page and learning a bit more about us!
