This month is full of celebrations.

This Monday we celebrated Ricky’s birthday. A big happy belated birthday to Ricky (my dad).

But today is a special day to celebrate Grandma Rita’s heavenly birthday . She would have been 88 today. Those who have passed we keep alive through our memories. Let’s keep her alive on her birthday by sharing a little memory you have of her.

I have so many memories I could share. But as I drink my coffee and eat my eggs for breakfast. I will share my memories of running out to Friendly’s most mornings to grab breakfast. We used to take piper with us (if you remember her). Sometimes we would go for a ride to “get milk “ after dark and that really meant go get an ice cream from Stewart’s and watch her play scratch offs.
❤️ I miss my grandma. She gave the best hugs.

Retired Ricky’s Adventures: Fresh Tomatoes, Farmers Markets, and the Flavors of Summer

Retired Ricky was off on another grand adventure today—and this one was all about fresh produce, which is basically nature’s way of showing off.

Ricky heard that R & R Produce had some juicy red tomatoes fresh off the vine, so he went to investigate. Naturally, he couldn’t just look at them like a normal person—he had to taste one. And let’s just say the tomato passed with flying colors. It was so flavorful that Ricky brought some home to enjoy on toast with mayonnaise, because sometimes the simplest foods are the ones that make you sit back and say, “Well, that’s a pretty good life right there.”

Ricky says these tomatoes are perfect for making a fresh batch of homemade tomato sauce. If you’re ready to kick off the season with fresh tomatoes and sauce that tastes like summer in a pot, now’s the time to get started!

R & R Produce at the Patterson Farmers Market

This Saturday, R & R Produce will be at the Patterson Farmers Market with a big variety of fresh produce—including plenty of those delicious, juicy red tomatoes.

There will be lots of great produce to choose from, so make sure you get there early for the best selection. The good stuff tends to disappear fast, kind of like tomatoes around Ricky.

They also have their tomatoes available at their farm on Celery Avenue in New Hampton.

More Fresh Produce from Local Farmers

Selly Farms will also be at the Patterson Farmers Market with fresh cabbage, cauliflower, and a large collection of Kirby cucumbers.

Ricky Farm will be there too, bringing fresh-picked jalapeños, serranos, papalo, pipicha, and lots of dill flowers. You’ll also find plenty of potatoes, garlic, and bagged onions, along with fresh leek and zucchini flowers. Basically, if your recipe needs it, somebody at the market probably grew it and woke up at dawn to do it.

Retired Ricky’s Adventures: A Night at Bada Bing

Retirement has opened the door to all kinds of new adventures for Ricky—and sometimes, the best adventures are the ones that involve good food, good friends, and a place filled with great memories.

Last evening, Ricky went to one of his favorite places for dinner: a small pizza restaurant called Bada Bing. It may be a small place, but it has a big place in Ricky’s heart.

Over the years, the owner, Omar, has become one of Ricky’s good friends. What started as visits for pizza and calamari slowly turned into a friendship built on plenty of conversations, laughs, and shared meals.

This time, Ricky decided to bring along the owner of Ricky Farm. He wanted him to experience one of his favorite local spots and taste what Ricky considers some of the best calamari and pizza in town.

The evening was all about good food and good company. The calamari was a hit, the pizza was just as delicious as always and Omar made everyone feel right at home.

For Ricky retirement isabout having the time to enjoy the places you love, spend time with good friends, and share those special experiences with others.

And on this adventure, Bada Bing delivered once again—great food, great friendship, and another memorable night in the adventures of Retired Ricky.

Retired Ricky was so excited when Myra from Oaxaca in Passaic, NJ, stopped by to visit while she was tending to her customers in the area!

Ricky was one of her clients for many years, and Myra helped introduce Mexican products to the farm. It was wonderful to see them reconnect! ❤️

Also, this Saturday at the Paterson Farmers Market, we’ll have some exciting new items:

🌿 Danga — a large variety where you eat the leaves like spinach and the stems like broccoli.

❤️ Red-stem Danga — when cooked with rice, the beautiful color transfers into the rice.

🌿 Jute — a slippery-leaf vegetable that is also known for its nutritional benefits. It helps with arthritis in the joints.

🧅 10-pound bags of Red onions
🥔 Lots of freshly dug potatoes
🌿 bunches of giant dill
…and so much more!

Retired Ricky will be there at 4:00 AM—yes, 4 AM!—so if you’re up early and want to get your fresh produce before it gets smoky and hot, come see him.

And don’t forget: bring a cup of coffee for Ricky and a soda for his nephew! ☕🥤

Ricky was at the market early this morning seeing all his customers... some like old family, some new. It was a busy day but Ricky had a little time to reminisce. Here is Ricky with Noah, Ricky with David and one with David's late wife. That is one of Ricks favorite pictures. She had on a Matarazzo Tshirt that day. More good memories... Jim was another good friend. Customers become friends, friends become like family.

All cherished memories. Celebrating the 250th anniversary of our country.

PATERSON FARMERS MARKET, SATURDAY JULY 4TH

A lot of farmers will be there early so you can get all your fresh vegetables before the heat comes and get ready for your parties.

Ricky will be there at 4am for Ricky Farms. He is only going on Saturday this week. Ricky farm will have papalo, pipicha, fresh cut and bagged onions, potatoes, zucchini, Jumbo dill, and garlic plus more.

Selle farm will be there with green beans, sweet corn, kirbys and many more items. They will be getting there early.
R & R will be there early with broccoli, carrots, beets and so much more.

The Egg lady will be there

The bread man will be there at 7

Dagele farm will be there with a variety of lettuce and tomatoes plus so much more.

Bader farm will be there with zucchini, pickles and baby eggplant... they will be there early.

The farmers will be there early and some are leaving early. So beat the heat and get there before the sun rises and get all the fresh stuff for your parties.

Ricky will not be there on sunday so if you need potatoes get them saturday!

Ricky will be in the paterson farmers market early on Saturday. He will be there at 4am for your convenience so you can shop early to get home and cook. He will pack up and leave around 10am to get home before it gets too hot. So wake up early and get fresh potatoes, onions, garlic, dill and more for your holiday meal.
