Early morning napping in the upper field. This is what greets us when we go up to feed breakfast and do “room service.” They don’t seem to be too concerned.

The horses in the upper field enjoying an early evening romp! Teddy (paint) loves to stir it up with Max and Winston (the two bays), while Snoopy, Chester (paint) and Rascal take it all in stride.
Thank you to Jess, Zazu’s mom, for the video!

Welcome to Otis and Cody! Otis is a big, beautiful, true black Hanoverian, and Cody is an adorable Paint/QH cross. Big difference in their sizes (17h+ and 15h). They’ve both been here a little over a week and are becoming friends!

Beautiful morning! Sunrise in the east, moon setting in the west. Teddy saying good morning!

We said goodbye to Ladi (Ladinor) on March 9 on a warm and sunny day. He was 31 and had been with us for nearly 11 years. Ladi was a dressage horse and in his prime gave his mom many wonderful competition moments and achievements. (See his pictures!)

He started off in the lower field, which we call the “fat boys” field because it doesn’t have much grass, because he was a bit chonky when he came. Ladi’s best friend there for years was Chubby (need I say more?) and they together were affectionately known as Lubby.

Ladi started to lose weight as he aged. No longer a “fat boy,” we had to move him to the barn (aka super senior ward) to keep a closer eye on him.

He improved and he found new friends, Princess and Sam.

The past six months Ladi told us he was winding down. So we let him cross the bridge on a good day and now I’m sure he’s running in heaven!

We lost one of the sweetest horses in December, Prento (Cha Ching). Prento was one of the knowingest horses I’ve met. He’d stand close and look at you with the most soulful expression, and sigh. As if he could read your mind and wanted to let you know things were all right in his world.

He was in his late 20s and had been retired for several years, first in Maryland and then here. He was very tall and was a true gentle giant. His best friend was Nitro; they were inseparable.

He was shown in equitation and hunters and his mom said he was a total blast!

Prento made an impression on everyone who met him! Rest in peace my friend!

Our beloved Shaun needed to have one of his eyes removed (enucleation) because it was diseased. He’s pretty old (probably 30ish), but he’s got a lot of life left in him. He was a superstar for the procedure and now he’s out of pain. A few more days and he’ll have his bandage off and be back to normal. Many thanks to his mom who decided to travel this journey with him!
