Working on some upgrades! New gates in the upper field in the stallion alley (the pathway between the two fields; if needed we can open the opposing gates across the alley and create one big field).
And new mats in the upper south shed. The old mats are about 15 years old and their interlocking tabs and surfaces have degraded over time. Pressure from the four-legged rototillers and the drag of the Kubota tires have pulled them apart. The question was, what’s the best way to fix?
Option 1, take them all out, dig out the footing and replace with new footing and new mats? Or option 2, just take them out, flatten the surface and put the old back in?
Or…met a new mat supplier at the Equine Affaire who sells enormous, heavy duty, interlocking mats that could be cut to exactly fit the shed. And then flatten the old mats and install the new mats over the top?
Bingo! Option three!
New mats are from LRP mats in Ohio. The eight new mats are 6x11 each to fit a 22x24 space. They cut them to exactly fit the space and delivered the mats rolled up.
It took about 6 hours to clean up and flatten the existing mats and install the new.
Really happy with the results!
We have a few more sheds to fix, but we’re going to give these a little time to settle to see if we need to change anything in how we did the installation.
FYI we used self leveling cement to fill any holes in the old mats.
