I pride myself on using high quality ingredients with many of those being grown or raised by myself and my husband. My experience with American Guinea Hogs...smart, loveable, joy to raise. So how can I be ok with slaughtering? I had once read that 97% of the pork you buy in the groceries are raised on concrete floors and have never seen daylight. They have to be fed antibiotics daily due to breath

ing in the poisonous gas from their waste. They live their short lives in small cages. When I started researching factory pig farming, not only was I horrified to read about the conditions that these poor animals live in but it is all completely legal. If more people thought about where their meat came from and how it was treated, they would buy from local farmers. My pigs have wonderful lives. They are fed healthy food with fresh fruits and vegetables, free of antibiotics. They are able to grow and mature at a slower more natural rate than factory pigs. They are able to enjoy association with other pigs. Able to run and play or relax in their swimming pools on warm days. They enjoy daily belly rubs. It is the life they lead up until the moment of death that matters. Our hogs are humanly killed and I am able to provide my family with clean meat. I feel good knowing that I’m not supporting the brutal treatment of commercial hogs by purchasing meat at the grocery. If you do not live in an area where purchasing from a family farm is an option, I encourage you to look for pork sold at markets that is pasture raised, free of hormones and antibiotics or organic.
