Midnight Blue is our Popcorn of the Month kernel for August, so here's a few fun facts about it:
🔷The unpopped kernels are blue, though the hull color ranges from blue to purple to an almost black color.
🔷The popped popcorn is not blue *at all*. The pieces come out in a range that's soft gray to soft white, and are usually smaller than movie popcorn pieces.
🔷Because of its smaller size, Midnight Blue is nearly hulless, so less prone to leaving behind those thicker pieces of kernel that can so easily get stuck in your teeth. We still recommend popping it on the stovetop or in a microwave popper to get this effect--the Blue needs a high, consistent heat to pop well.
🔷Our Midnight Blue has a real crunch to it, along with a slightly sweet flavor that makes it fun to pair with popcorn salt, savory or tangy seasonings.
🔷Midnight Blue pops into butterfly shaped pieces, too, with all those nooks and crannies that hold easily onto seasoning. A little goes a long way with this kind of popcorn!
