Sometimes, it’s the things we quietly keep tending that surprise us the most. 🍂🤎

It’s been a while since I’ve baked a loaf of sourdough.

Life has been full around here. Last month’s crazy rain brought some serious water drama and washed out the road at the front of Green Akers Farm. We’ve transitioned back into school, fall sports and all the running that comes along with them. And personally, I’ve been navigating some unknown medical things—appointments, tests, and trying to find some answers.

Needless to say, bread baking has taken a bit of a backseat.

But one thing I have continued to do is feed my starter.

Nothing exciting. Nothing worth posting about. Just quietly feeding her and keeping her going in between taking care of my family and everything else life has required lately.

Then a returning customer asked for a loaf. 🤎

So yesterday, I pulled out my flour, put that starter to work and did something I haven’t done in a while.

And early this morning, this beauty came out of my oven.

Maybe that’s why I love sourdough so much.

It’s a reminder that not everything meaningful happens in big, visible moments. Sometimes it’s the little things we faithfully tend behind the scenes—the things no one sees—that eventually produce something beautiful.

Life doesn’t always leave room to do everything.

Sometimes you just keep feeding what matters.

Your family.
Your faith.
Your dreams.
Your sourdough starter. 😉

And trust that when the time is right, something beautiful might rise from all that quiet consistency.

Goodness, it felt good to bake bread again. 🍞🍂

Meet our Pumpkin Cinnamon Swirl Coffee Cake — and I think she may have just earned herself a spot on the fall menu. 🤎

A soft, moist pumpkin coffee cake with a brown sugar cinnamon swirl tucked through the middle and a thick, buttery brown sugar cinnamon crumble on top.

It’s warm. It’s cozy. It’s perfectly pumpkin-y without being too pumpkin-y… and paired with a hot cup of coffee? Oh. My. Goodness. ☕️

This is the kind of cake made for slow fall mornings, crisp afternoons, front porches and just one more little piece every time you walk through the kitchen. 🍁

Of course, recipe testing required a fresh cup of coffee and a generous slice. Strictly for quality control. 😉☕️🍂

🚨 Breaking News from Green Akers Farm🚨

Apparently our Cinnamon Sugar Boule is expecting… because it had a baby boule. 🤰🍞😂

We had a tiny explosion in the Dutch oven, and honestly, I’m not even mad about it. Sometimes sourdough has plans of its own.

Underneath all that cinnamon-sugar goodness is a loaf with a beautifully caramelized crust, a soft, tangy crumb, and swirls of warm cinnamon and sweet sugar in every bite. Rustic? Absolutely. Perfect? Maybe not. Delicious? Without question.

Sometimes the best loaves are the ones with a little extra character… and apparently, a little extra child support. 😅
