Its the weekend and we are busy busy! We are moving chicks to different brooders, doing a big clean out of the boxes, cleaning the house up for our mini vacation next week and we might even be giving our bantam cochin ladies some chicks to break their broodyness in this heat!

Three coops down and only 1 more to go!

Roosts will all be replaced this year. I scrape them when dry and add pdz to absorb any moisture. Paint spatulas are GREAT for scraping the roosts, and kitty litter scoops are even more amazing for scooping the p**p boards! And if you dont want to do that, a small layer of coffee grounds/PDZ and you can use the scrape the next day into a bucket πŸ’œ and then do it again and keep your coop nice and clean!
My chicken coop inn is the most dusty and has the most dirty roosts as this is the integration coop and the smaller birds learning to roost accidentally p**p on the roosts instead of the boards.
Totally ok! We can just pull them out and replace with new ones as these are not screwed in, they are just sitting in metal hangers that we can just remove and replace!

Check out the original post for details!

We have 3 broody hens now, so we will likely keep a couple if there are extras to break them with the heat wave so they arent sitting.

Moved a small group out to the bantam coop to grow out a bit. They are protected from pecking and bullying in their little home away from home dog kennel, wrapped in hardware cloth, with food and water. They will have something over the top so that no one p**ps on them if they decide to hop on the cage 🀭
A couple weeks in here, and then they can be integrated with the flock 🫢

Little Maverick was one of the best girls we raised. She is a Crele Bantam Cochin. She came from Penobscot Poultry in Bangor Maine, from hatching eggs - over 4 years ago. She was such a good girl.
She lives not far away, in her own little backyard flock with her sisters and 2 daughters πŸ™‚

Just love seeing these memories πŸ’™
