88 chicken breast, thighs, drums, wings, and a ton of broth later...

All for our family this time. It really took the pressure off of perfection. When we sold to the community things looked different. Now I feel like a hillbilly provider in the best way πŸ€ πŸ˜‚

Maryland Farm Bureau has penned a letter to U.S. Department of Agriculture Secretary Brooke Rollins requesting an expedited Secretarial Disaster Declaration to unlock assistance for frost damage affected farmers in Maryland.

In an internal survey by Maryland Farm Bureau, farmers reported an average estimated production loss of 67.5 percent across surveyed crops, with many operations in heavily hit counties reporting near total losses. Hardest hit are the state’s signature specialty crops, including apples, peaches, and wine grapes, as well as early spring vegetable starts.

Our farmers are worried, and for many, this frost represents the loss of an entire year of income in a single night. Maryland farmers are resilient, but they cannot weather this storm alone.

Chris's grandmother passed today. She believes in Jesus and is in a better place. I'm grateful she liked me from the start as a woman for Chris bc she deep down scared me a little. I swore she was in the mafia πŸ˜‚

Something sweet I learned this evening from his cousin Abby was her love for sunflowers. And today they held significance in her day and ours. I rushed planting sunflowers at the farm today. 4 varieties with no intent to do that with my day but I pushed it and did it with the kids bc I knew it was going to rain.

Later I broke a sunflower stem in the cooler so I let PJ play with it. She carried it around the yard with her all afternoon. Still no rain like planned.

Then a huge storm broke through and that's the rain I was counting on to water the sunnies I planted this morning.

She never got to meet Gabe but she experience PJ from baby to crazy toddler.

God is real. Peace is real. Hug your babies and go visit your Grandma.

Zinnias surprised me! The scabiosa bed took a hit and 10 dahlias we put out. About 250 plants. Also some bug is eating out yarrow and striking it clean slug or caterpillar 🍽️

We're hopeful. Lots of new growth is still good and I have more plugs to replace the scabiosa. Less flowers are better than no flowers. We are thankful we didn't have time to plant EVERYTHING.

Snaps enjoyed the dip.

We took a risk. No frost cloth. No low tunnel set up. It happened fast and we just don't have time.

Flowers were planted Saturday. Many are not cold tolerant. Risk of 35 degrees.

PRAY for our flowers! I'm praying for the weather to be mild or that our little patch isn't affected. Even if the frost hits the windshields, pray it doesn't get our blooms or we will be facing a replant and longer cutting date. Which means longer before we make $ to keep this thing going.

Some seeds started as early as Feb β„οΈπŸ’

A special place in my heart for assited living and this building in particular. I volunteered here while I was in high school for my AP hours ❀️

Don't forget, you can donate to our Flowers for Hope program and contribute to fun things like this. shadyhillva.com

This group of ladies from The Maynard rocked it this morning. They literally kept things rolling (no pun intended!). We are missing from the photo Carrie Coffey, Mary Kay Sales Director who had a HUGE part in making this shoot successful. Special thanks to Shady Hill for the gorgeous live flowers and Anthony Joseph Photography for coming through in a pinch!

Stay tuned for the reveal!
