Our mission: Nurture a diverse group of young leaders through the meaningful work of growing food

The mission of Grow Dat Youth Farm is to nurture a diverse group of young leaders through the meaningful work of growing food. At Grow Dat, people from different backgrounds come together to create a more just and sustainable food system. On our farm we work collaboratively to grow food, educate and inspire youth and adults, and build power to create personal, social and environmental change. We envision a vibrant New Orleans where youth and adults transform their communities, their environment, and themselves by engaging in the meaningful work of growing healthy food.

Join us on the farm Tuesday, October 27th, from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM to answer the question, "What's the Real Deal with Data Centers?".

In continuation of our Food for Thought series, we will share a farm-cooked meal in our outdoor classroom, followed by a Grow Dat youth-facilitated conversation with our partners (more info coming soon!). Learn more about how data centers are affecting our neighbors across the state, and how you can be activated in keeping communities safe. As always, come with your appetite for beans and rice, to listen and to work together!

September is Hunger Action Month, a time to raise awareness of food insecurity and its impact on individual and community health. A portion of the produce we grow here at Grow Dat, including these beautiful herbs, will be redistributed through our Shared Harvest partners and to our youth employees and their families.

By deepening our connections with other groups committed to building collective power, and by nourishing the change makers of the future, we increase our capacity to work towards a more just and equitable food system for New Orleans.

Last week marked the start of the program year, and Crew Leaders, Assistant Crew Leaders, and Seed members returned to the farm! We spent time reviewing personnel policies and standards, learned about banking, introduced our program curriculum, and talked about our favorite teachers. We also began preparing to interview over 100 applicants next week for our core leadership program, which begins in November. We ended the week with a presentation from The Small Center .tulane , who we are so excited to collaborate with this fall as their students build a new enclosed roof area for our rain-or-shine programming.

Summer has been flying by at Grow Dat, and we are reminiscing about the last day we spent on the farm together, Program Graduation Day! Each year, we celebrate the incredible work of our young leaders by inviting friends and family to share in presentations, fun, and, of course, a delicious lunch. Learning and growing are at the core of our mission, and days like this, where our community can join in, are the best kind of days on the farm.

If learning and growing alongside 40+ diverse youth excites you, or could be a great fit for a young person you know, we are hiring for the upcoming program year! Learn more and apply now on our website, or with the link in our bio!
