What an amazing week in New Orleans for 18th annual conference 🤩🧡 The content, the food, the people, the VIBES 🎺🎶🪩 Every year gets better and better and I am so lucky to be involved in and represent our ASPDA community.

I am also honored and excited to take the baton from a great leader and friend, , and step into the role as ASPDA President. Our sports and performance dietitian colleagues are doing so many amazing and inspiring things - I can’t wait to see where we go next 😎 📈

With grocery prices solidly out of control, I’m making an effort to post more meals to hopefully provide some inspo 💭

Meals will be: balanced (carb, protein, color), reasonably easy to prep, and hopefully perceived as a reasonable price point 🍴🤑 they will also likely include a balance of fresh foods and some *gasp* processed ones 😱

If you’re sick of taco Tuesday, might you consider using the same exact ingredients and making quesadillas instead?! This meal cost

Love when I get the chance to talk to younger athletes (and their parents) about the role nutrition can play in their performance and development 🙂 and especially love when it feels like a group is “getting it”‼️

Because it seems this trend insists on sticking around…it’s important to understand what keto is, and what keto isn’t. But the reality for most people that think they’re following a keto diet, is that you’re not…you’re just eating low carb🤷🏻‍♀️ (And in the least shocking turn of events ever, you are losing weight doing so).

The reality is that a true keto diet:
👉🏼Allows 25-50 g carbs TOPS, which you can easily knock out with some fruit or granola bar.
👉🏼Restricts protein - because your body will break down protein into carbs when necessary.
👉🏼Does not allow for “cheat days” because it takes 4-6 weeks for your body to ketoadapt in the first place.

The likelihood that you are actually in ketosis is so slim, that unless you are consistently (read: always) limiting carb and protein to these extreme amounts and eating literally 80-90% of your daily calories from fat, you are almost certainly not in ketosis.

‼️WHICH IS FINE‼️ Because your body doesn’t want to be in ketosis anyways, and is trying like hell to function normally despite your new diet pattern.

☝🏼Lastly, both actual keto and the crap job of keto that most people are doing can come with detrimental side effects-and the vast majority of athletic performance is negatively impacted by this dietary pattern 👎🏼

I’m objectively a pretty lackluster entrepreneur, because I’m terrible about posting my projects consistently 🙈 but for young practitioners looking for an easy-to-read sports nutrition reference or athletes trying to improve their game, I’ve gotchu covered 🤓

I’m biased 🤪 but I think this is one of the more comprehensive, but easy to read guides out there. Written with the MANY athletes I’ve worked with over the last decade+ in mind!

Any readers out there? What was the most helpful part for you?!
