Let us tell ya, this was not an email we were expecting to get.
Look, third place may not look like a “win” to everyone. But for us, the newest kids on the block, the spot that had been open about 8 weeks when the voting for this ended, it feels like a pretty major win.
We are honored to share space with true institutions, places we grew up with, and we are thankful. Most significantly thankful that our place on this list doesn’t come from an influencer or even from critics; it comes from you, our customers, our community, our neighbors. From the folks we worked so hard to build Ruthie’s for, you.
We couldn’t pay for this. We didn’t even campaign for it; we didn’t think we had a chance. You gave this to us. Thank you,
It’s no secret that opening a small business is difficult, especially a restaurant. But there is a difference between knowing something is going to be hard, and experiencing the reality of it being hard. There is also a difference between knowing that something can be great, and watching it become great.
When we started Ruthie’s, we knew it would be hard, and we knew it could be great. We knew we, very simply, wanted to build a place people want to be. We knew we knew that common, everyday joy is a little too uncommon right now. But we had an idea, and we had hope. Hope that if we built a great space, served incredible custard, and treated people right, they would show up for us. So far, we’ve been more correct than we could have dreamed.
Thank you for showing up. Thank you for taking the time to vote for us. Thank you for bringing the joy into our space. The joy is its most essential ingredient.
We know the world is fickle, and anything can happen. No position is forever, and no 3-month-old restaurant has truly “made it”. We are still building every day, working to be better than the day before. Working to continue to earn your business, your trust. We are still improving. We hope to be able to continue improving every day, for many many more days. With your support, we will.
Speaking of, here’s the flavor schedule for next week, hope to see you ya in.
Thank you Gambit New Orleans and The Times-Picayune | NOLA.com for endeavoring to call us best.
