đź’•MEET BELLAđź’•
Hi, my name is Bella and I’m almost 6 years old, I’ve learned a lot in my life, mostly that people come and go, but love is always worth waiting for.
I was adopted as a puppy from a rescue about four hours away on the Eastern Shore. For five and a half years I had the best life, my family loved me very much! Sadly my mom's health kept getting worse and she had to go to a nursing home, she tried to find me a home but I guess they didn't want me...
I don’t remember how I ended up in Pennsylvania but I was found running around the Hanover Shoe Farms. I didn't want anyone to catch me, I was scared, tired, trying to survive, and just wanted to be back with my family. During my time on the run, I was hit by two different cars… though, if I’m being honest, I hit them more than they hit me.. I walked away with a few scrapes and bruises, but nothing could stop me running. I didn't know where I was running to but I just knew I had to keep running.
Eventually, a wonderful group called FIND TOBY in PA came along and they didn’t give up on me! After a week of trying they finally trapped me with rotisserie chicken (works every time). When I arrived at the Adams County SPCA, I was underweight, scratched up, and terrified but at least I was safe. The staff here at the ACSPCA were gentle. It took me a little time to trust again, they didn’t rush me. I watched. I listened. I learned that hands can be gentle and voices can be kind. And once I knew I was safe, I turned into a big love-bug!
Oh and somewhere along the way, I got sprayed by a skunk. Yep! That happened. I’ve had lots of baths since then (which I actually LOVE), and the smell is mostly gone… except when it rains. Then I get a little “fragrant.” It’s okay though, the staff still hug me. They just hold their breath. And they tell me they love my stinky butt anyway...
Once I trusted them, I showed who I really am; very laid-back, gentle and happy just to be close to my people. I am housebroken, love to go for walks, I enjoy other dogs, but I’ve always been an only child, and honestly, I kind of like being the center of attention. I’d do best with older kids who understand that I’m not a puppy anymore and don’t need little hands climbing all over me. I bond deeply and quickly once I feel safe. I already did it here, and I know I can do it again with you.
I’ve been through a lot, but I don’t carry anger or fear anymore. I just want a couch, a family, and someone who will love me forever this time. If you’re looking for a loyal companion with a big heart, a calm soul, and maybe just a hint of skunk smell when it rains…I'm your girl!
