Crop Update!
We're finally able to get a better sense of the damage caused by the freeze on 4/21. As Sarah explains, it's not a total loss, but it's close. We're expecting about 15% of an apple crop.
Mortality rates vary drastically by variety because different varieties bloom at different times. While some like Snap Dragon have almost full crops, others like Pink Lady are completely wiped out.
Our peaches also took a big hit, but we should have some to put in the roadstand at some point.
The good news is strawberries seem to be in the best shape of anything. Look for the roadstand to open sometime around June 6th with berries.
Thanks again for all your thoughts and well wishes. It's reassuring to know we have such a great community supporting us during these extremely difficult times!

The farm stand will be CLOSED for the next few weeks as we have run out of apples. We anticipate strawberry season beginning around June 7th, but this is VERY weather-dependent. We will update more as the season approaches.
At this time, due to frost damage, we do NOT anticipate being able to have U-Pick strawberries this year. If that changes we'll let you know.
Thank you for your continued support. We'll see you in June!

Covering strawberry fields 🍓🍓 With forecasts showing near-freezing temperatures overnight tonight, we're not taking any chances. The 4/21 freeze took out most of our apples, but our strawberry beds hadn't bloomed yet. While there's certainly going to be damage to the crop, we're hopeful we can salvage enough to sell at our roadstand.

These strawberry bed covers act exactly like the blankets on your bed at home. Even just this thin layer can prevent frost from settling on the plants and killing fruit buds.

Keep your fingers crossed for us. The month of May is still a very dangerous time for potential frost damage.

As you may have heard, in the early morning hours of April 21, the region experienced extreme freezing temperatures. Every year growers are worried about frosty nights that endanger the delicate buds and blossoms in our orchards. Research shows that during bloom, notable damage (10% bud mortality) begins to occur around 28°. At 25° growers can see up to 90% bud mortality. On Tuesday morning we saw temperatures around 21° for sustained periods across our orchards.
We have NEVER seen temperatures like this during bloom. Traditional frost prevention like wind machines or orchard heaters were essentially useless at these temperatures. And while the full extent of the damage won't be fully known for weeks or even months, we assume catastrophic loss of our entire apple crop. At the moment we're working with our scouts, Cornell scientists, and other growers to come up with some sort of contingency plan to mitigate the damage but right now we're all just a bit lost. We're still in shock, to be honest. This has never happened before.
We'll keep you updated when we figure out what's going on but for now just keep all the farms in the entire Northeast in your thoughts. This has been a really tough week and it's only Wednesday. 🍎 🍏 ❤️

Bins for sale!
It's spring cleaning time and once again we've got a bunch of old apple bins we can't use for fruit anymore. Need a planter? Maybe a compost bin? How about a cheap dog house?

Inquire at our farm store. $25/bin sold as-is. We can help load. 43" x 48" x 30" so you'll need a pickup truck or a trailer. No, it won't fit in your CRV.

In case you've been asleep for the last few days, there's some pretty snowy winter weather headed our way.
We'll be closed until we can dig ourselves out.
We're open today and Saturday 9-5 so stock up on some ice cream before this gets too nasty!
Also, due to the weather and slow movement, we will not be pressing cider this week. Sorry for any inconvenience.
