Meet our newest addition, Luna! 🤎🐮

A little pedigree appreciation for Luna:

Timeout × 2E90 Richard × VG-88 Supreme × EX-91 Theory × 2E92 Pronto

Her 2E92 Pronto great-great-granddam is also the dam of Bosephus, which is a pretty neat connection in her pedigree!

Luna will be 2 years old in September and just freshened with her first calf on 8/2. She may not be a show cow, but she’s a nice young cow with a pedigree behind her that we’re pretty excited to breed from. She’s also milking good at 63 lbs/day with a 4.2% fat and 3.6% protein.

I can’t wait to see what her future holds here! 🤎

I hate cows. 💔

They have this way of finding their way into your heart, making you fall completely in love with them… and then they go and do something stupid and break it.

We lost Cassy last night in a freak accident, and I’m honestly at a loss for words. I cried pretty hard this morning. I just wasn’t ready for this one.

I was literally getting ready to pick out a nice Brown Swiss bull to breed her to. I was so excited to see her grow up, freshen in, and see what kind of cow she would become. I had so many plans for her.

Cassy was born the day after my mom’s birthday, which always made her a little extra special to me. Maybe that’s part of why losing her hurts as much as it does.

Today is one of those days where I just want to crawl back into bed, pull the covers over my head, and cry. But the other cows need me, and farm life doesn’t stop just because your heart hurts.

I’m really going to miss this girl. 💔
Rest easy, Cassy girl. You deserved so many more years. I hope you’re up there with my mom, getting all the scratches you could ever want. I know she would’ve loved you. 🤎🐮

Maggie 🤎

Maggie calved on Sunday and is doing great! She’s always been an old soul—even as a heifer she was the calmest, most chill girl. She just goes with the flow and not much of anything seems to faze her. 😂

She’s also my kind of Brown Swiss. She reminds me of the older-style Swiss—deep bodied, thick, stocky, and not excessively tall. Just a good, solid cow with some substance to her. 🤎

And then there are THOSE EARS. 😂😂 I’ve been around a lot of Brown Swiss, but I’m pretty sure Maggie takes the prize for the biggest ears I’ve ever seen on one. At this point I’m starting to wonder if there’s a Brahman hiding somewhere in her family tree. 🤣

Sweet, quiet, built like a tank, and equipped with her own set of satellite dishes. 😂🤎 That’s Maggie!

What a morning for Maggie! 🥹🤎 She welcomed a BIG Ayrshire x Brown Swiss bull calf into the world this morning. It was a difficult delivery and she definitely had to work for this big boy, but thankfully mama and baby are both doing well. ❤️

Nothing quite like seeing them both up and doing well after a tough calving. Welcome to the farm, big guy! 🐮🤎

Just Red ❤️🐄

She’s nothing fancy — just a plain, grade Red & White Holstein who somehow found her way from the sale barn to us. She’s the slowest cow in the barn to milk out (and I have a feeling that may be part of how she ended up at the sale in the first place 😂). She’s not overly social, but loves a good scratch on the poll or neck every now and then.

And after giving us a little trouble in the breeding department (silent heats 🫠), Red is finally bred! 🙌 She’s carrying a calf by Wingman, a Brown Swiss bull — something I am ridiculously excited about. My husband, on the other hand, could care less. 😂

We had a Holstein × Brown Swiss in our old herd back in 2017 who was built like an absolute tank and turned out to be an amazing milk cow, so I’m REALLY looking forward to seeing what Red gives us. 🤎🤍❤️

Nothing spectacular about her on paper. No fancy pedigree. No big story. Just a good ol’ cow who’s earned her place here.

And goodness… she sure looked pretty out in the pasture this afternoon. 🥰

At 31 days fresh, Sis is already milking 56 lbs a day — about 6.5 gallons — and has officially taken the #1 production spot in our herd! 🥇🥛

This first-calf Vanta daughter even managed to knock my husband’s Jerseys out of the top spot… and you better believe I’m enjoying that. 😂😉

She hasn’t even hit her peak yet, so now the fun part is seeing just how much more she has in her! 👀🤎
