We are SO grateful to Garcia Farm Labor LLC who consistently do such a great job harvesting our asparagus.
As you can see from the video, it’s hard work!

Garcia Farm Labor says a dry winter and ongoing drought are reducing available work for their crew in Idaho, while rising fuel and housing costs add to the pressure.

It is with heavy hearts that we share the passing of Freda Lee, our primary contact, community organizer, co-author of our Asparagus Cookbook, and so much more. She will truly be missed.

Freda’s celebration of life will be held on Friday, April 24 at 1:00 pm at the Four Rivers Cultural Center in Ontario, Oregon, with arrangements handled by Shaffer-Jensen Memory Chapel in Payette. The service will be live streamed and recorded for those unable to attend in person.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials to the Fruitland United Women in Faith at the Fruitland United Methodist Church, Ancora Hospice Legacy Foundation, or a charity of your choice, particularly those supporting youth or music.

Freda Elsie (Schmid) Lee was born on January 15, 1940 to Walter and Genevieve Schmid of New Plymouth, Idaho. She was brought home and enjoyed a childhood growing up on the farm with her older siblings Joe and Rose E, her extended family, and close neighbors. She passed away at home in that same house on April 12, 2026, at age 86, surrounded by her loving family, especially her grandchildren who were the greatest joy of her life.

Thank you all who are checking on asparagus harvest 2026! With the hard freeze over the weekend, everything above ground froze, so no picking yet. We will continue to monitor growth and hope for sunshine. We will post here as soon as we have a picking ready to sell. Thank you for your support!
