CHICK BUYING GUIDE:

Before you hit the feed store this week:
- Know what breeds you want (or you WILL impulse buy)
- Check for bright eyes, clean vents, active behavior
- Buy at least 3 (chickens need a flock)
- Have your brooder set up BEFORE you go
- Straight run = 50% roosters. Buy sexed pullets if you can't have roosters.

PREDATOR CHECK: Now that it's warming up, predators are MORE active.

- Walk your entire fence line for winter damage
- Check hardware cloth for rust or holes
- Make sure underground barriers are intact
- Test all latches (raccoons are HUNGRY in spring)
- Trim back overgrown areas where predators hide
- Spring babies attract more hawks
