The big beef...... is beef imported to the US. Yes it is. Apparently alot of it. A certain amount is imported with a tiny little tariff on it (4.6% is one I read). Then anything over that has a 24% tariff on it. Will the amount of beef coming into the US change with this new action coming at us? It's unclear from what I can find. What it means is more is coming in that isn't tariffed. We just love that tariff, so clear and easy to understand (ha!) and aren't we all glad other countries are paying and not us....
BUT here's a kicker... There are no longer country of origins rules on the books. So you have no idea if what you are purchasing from a store is from the US or not. Oh wait you say... It says "product of the USA". Well sorry to say this but that is not what you think. Beef doesn't have to be raised here to have that label. Oh no. It can be labelled as Product of USA and be raised not in the USA and it can even be butchered out of the USA. It just has to have the final processing done like grinding and slicing done in the USA.
Want to know where your beef comes from, find a local farm, ,go to the farmers market, use google or how about use a nice website MeatSuite they've done the work for you in NY. Then you know your meat is raised in your community, You know your farmer, you make a positive financial impact right in your own community, and was butchered at a local small butcher shop, not a mega place that is owned by foreign companies. And. your meat comes from 1 animal and not a mix of parts from.... who know where.
THEN speak up and demand that Country of Origin labels be stricter and not smoke and mirrors.

🌽 SWEET CORN 🌽 is at the stand now. Non-gmo. Grown with no herbicides, no pesticides & our own farm compost for fertilizer.

Sweet corn will be at the farmstand staring tomorrow by noon! (Saturday 8/15) We grow our sweet corn starting with non-gmo seeds, compost for fertility, and some cool little bitty moth parasites to fight off ear worms, no pesticides, no herbicides........ This first bath has smaller ears but loaded with flavor.

An update on the farmstand and the farm. The farmstand is open all day every day but only has maple syrup and popcorn currently. Bug Off spray will be ready next week. We will not be stocking it with veggies or growing for it this summer although we do hope to have some Sweet Corn sometime in August. We had been busy caring for Tricia's mom since December and decided to cut things back in order to free up time for her care and everything else that entails. She recently passed away very peacefully here at our home.
Instead of ramping back up, Tricia is taking some time off this year. You will still see things growing as we are growing only for our family this summer.

The beef herd is doing well and hay is being made and put in the barns for their winter feed. We had our first set of twins this year. Our 1/4 and 1/2 beef are sold out for the fall BUT......

We have GROUND BEEF for sale now while it lasts and should have another bunch ready in early December.
Ground beef 5 #-$55, 10 #-$110, 20 #-$220.. This is whole cow ground beef (steaks, brisket, roasts and all) that has been entirely grassfed with no grain, no plastic wrapped bailage, no hormones, no pesticides, raised on our own chemical free pastures.
Also some stock and dog bones on offer. $3 a pound.
Pickup is at the farm, cash or check. 1 pound tubes, USDA inspected butcher.
